The last one!!!
When I was driving the Grit Chip RV I mentally added a foot over the height of the rooftop units.
I feel sorry for the RV'ers in the video who will arrive at "camp" and wonder why the A/C isn't working.
There are school bus drivers who have tried to take the bus through fast food and bank drive throughs etc.
The bus I drive now is 12 foot.

My new Dodge 2500 Promaster is 8'4" and I am paranoid about low overheads. I will clear most modern stuff, but there are lots of old historical bridges around here. GW parkway. (My friend's tree svs equipment will clear the left lane, but not the right) After a lifetime of just driving under everything with no thought, it's time to think. Ducking your head in the driver's seat is not that helpful.

There's an older bridge in downtown Atlanta on a four narrow lane road.
I had to take the Grit Chip RV through the center of the bridge hole straddling lanes 2 and 3.

There were a whole lot of rental trucks go through (at least try). I liked the one that turned left to avoid it just to back up and turn and go under it anyway. I understand the street is a oneway. That would explain why he backed up. Another was the two hay trucks. First went through and lost the top bails. The second truck drove under it as well and surprise surprise lost the top of his load as well. Stupid is as stupid does....

Should of titled this one - Just take a little off the top. Amazing, even when they slowed down, it still wouldn't fit. It did do a great job of removing those unsightly protuberances from the top of the RVs though.

In trucker parlance THAT'S known as topping a trailer or just topping. And on those rent trucks take a W A G on Who pays if you don't get the insurance they offer should you top one of their trucks. AND if the sign sez 11' 8" or 13' 9" a good professional driver subtracts a couple inches fer safety reasons AND you ease up on it SLOWLY. And Winter changes that game due to ice and snow build up. Had I not been able to drop the air in the air ride on the trailer and tractor I would have damaged my trailer at a place in Illinois I picked up taters. Had I Not been able to dump the air or if I had a spring suspension I would have had to go bout 40 miles around. When I first started out driving 18 wheeler Chicago provided a Lot of work for my company. As a Professional Driver tou Learn to pay Attention to those yellow signs on the bridges and be aware of ice and snow and leaves and they Might have repaved and NOT updated the measurement after the paving job-more pavement less clearance. Most companies I drove for you only topped a trailer once cuz they'd fire yer azz if you did. RIDE SAFE. P S-I Never topped a trailer-dented one-Never topped one.

I work for Ryder truck rental for a lot of years and I saw from minor damage to the entire bodies tore off. I have no idea how many of them we were repaired or scrapped out.

U-Haul contracts in Calgary specifically mention at least two bridges in Calgary that are forbidden for renters to drive under, one with 8'10" clearance, and the other with 6'6". For the second one, I duck my head when riding my bicycle under it, even though I clear it by about a foot. I think this warning solution is brilliant. When an over-height vehicle is detected, a curtain of water is turned on, and a huge stop sign is projected onto it. This is in Sydney, Australia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoTMC-uxJoo

My daughter, Toni, about 15 yrs. ago was moving back to Florida from Wisconsin and driving a U-Haul box truck. She only had her daughter with her and somewhere on I-75 they decided to stop at the yellow arches for something to eat. Without thinking she pulled in, gave her order then pulled ahead toward the first window to pay for it. In doing so she took out an overhanging sign warning of only a 9' clearance. I guess the tears and the picture her overall plight did the job 'cuz the manager didn't press for cost of repairs and gave her the food....sending her on her way. When she turned in the truck here in Orlando, they made note of the minor damage but never pressed her for the cost of repair either. I'd say a guardian angel was sitting on that girl's shoulder....one of many times in the early years.

Unless you put a ladder rack on top you should be fine! I have a new Sprinter so I know how you feel! The bridges a measured at the lowest spot that you could drive under not the center height. This said I'm always worried the first time I drive under a new bridge as if it may be measured wrong. In NY most low bridges are on parkways which restricts commercial traffic which prevents trucks from being on these roads. I have passenger plates on my van so I still have to be concerned.

Years ago I was helping a friend move.
He had rented a U-Haul truck for the move.
He started under a railroad bridge that was too low, I yelled at him to stop insisting that the truck wouldn't fit.
He insisted that it would but he did reduce the trucks speed to a crawl.
We were about 1/2 way under the bridge when it began to scrape.
He stopped, got out and let air out of the tires until they were nearly flat.
He then got back into the truck and drove on.
We aired the tires back up at the next gas station and finished our trip.
This guy is the type that everyone who knows him has some kind of funny story about.
Once in awhile I still pass by that same railroad bridge, I always seem to remember this story and chuckle to myself when I do.
