They are separated by 300 miles and more than 75 years.
On the Camden waterfront, the World War II-era battleship USS New Jersey can be found moored as a floating museum. Her fighting days long over, the state’s namesake — which was launched in 1942 — serves as a reminder of an earlier age of naval warfare.
Far to the south in Virginia, meanwhile, another USS New Jersey is slowly taking shape in a sprawling shipyard in Newport News.

Smaller and far deadlier than its hulking predecessor, the nuclear attack submarine SSN-796 will be the next ship to carry the state’s name.
Now about 43 percent complete, the New Jersey will be delivered to the U.S. Navy in late 2021, said a spokesman for Huntington Ingalls-Newport News Shipbuilding.

We have some remarkable hardware for our men and women in uniform. I would find the opportunity to work on the assembly of some of these marvels a career of a lifetime.

Made me think of this marching band as they proudly acknowledged the armed forces of the USA!

When they brought it out of mothballs, it stopped off at Norfolk for an open house before going to Viet Nam.  I was a teenager at the time but I'll never forget taking a tour of an active duty battleship.  It was an awesome ship.

I know that a WWII era Battleship can't match the fire power of a nuclear submarine.

But,

It will never be as beautiful:

Our 5" guns were not nearly as impressive as the New Jersey's. My General Quarters job was an ammo loader on our aft gun. It was pretty cool to see them hit there target. It wasn't near as easy as you'd think. I think maybe they would get a third of the moving targets. But what was really impressive to me was to watch them shoot off the ASROC missiles. Those were cool.  cooldude

I've never seen a live fire of the guns.

That would be really cool!

The closest that I've came is M60 Tanks and 105mm Howitzers.

I've been aboard the Missouri and the Wisconsin they are beautiful ships.

Down our way we have the USS Alabama as a museum ship in Mobile, AL.
I've spent a couple of nights aboard with the cub scouts when my son was one.

But..... alongside the Alabama is the 'Fleet Boat' submarine, the USS Drum.
When I was a cub scout, I got to go through the Drum.... when it was still active, being used as a training ship and docked at the Washington DC navy yard.

Patriots Point, SC has the USS Yorktown (CV-10), the USS Laffey (DD-724) and the USS Clagamore (SS-343) on display.

You can completely tour all three of them and they have overnight stays on the Yorktown.

If anyone likes touring this type of history it is well worth the trip.
