While many news agencies can only chortle that he arrived late, he's speaking now, and I can't remember the last time I was this proud of ANY person representing us before the General Assembly. Rather than preach my own views, I would urge folks of all political ilk to please read the transcript of his speech when available, or find it later on video.

I could have done without the usual bragging/chest thumping self-promotion at the very start of his speech, but once he got rolling on actual the meat & potatoes, it was stunning. Put the World on notice that he doesn't intend on bankrolling our enemies and protecting our allies for free, ripped the UN several new anal orifices over it's practices and told them the World Court can go pound sand, as NO unelected body was going to dilute our sovereignty. That's a huge 180° from Presidents that thought the White House was in Brussels, or the East River. The UN currently provides around 29% of the total UN "World Peace" budget, Trump said we'll no longer pay more than 25%. He also included strong language on/for OPEC, Germany's increasing dependence on Russian oil, the trade situation with China, and pretty much anything of importance recently including wanting more of the UN budget to depend on voluntary contribution rather than rigid apportioned amounts, i.e. the current jabbing us with a stick they make us pay for.

My better half recorded it and I just watched it. In short fantastic. Exactly what I knew he would be when I voted for him and campaigned for him. Around this part of Ohio Trump 2020 flags and homemade signs are starting to pop out. He called out everyone that needed to be, and bad policy's and actors around the world and that we would not be subject to any international body that was against us. He touted patriotism here and for everyone around the world to be a patriot of their individual state systems.

At work so I couldn't watch but when I get on "Yahoo news" (yeah, I know but that's all I get here at work) all the "News" agencies like huff post, esquire, etc... can comment on is how Pres Trump had to stop for the laughter.
And, yes, I know calling companies like huff post & esquire "news" agencies is a stretch because it's obvious they turned into nothing more than tabloids with real bad TDS!!

It's pretty hard to stifle a chuckle when you hear this ; "In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country. America is so thrilled."

Instead of bowing and apologizing like Obama did on more then one occasion Trump is standing up for America and putting the world on notice that we are not going to take it anymore. No more free lunch from the American taxpayers. How is that a bad thing? Or would you rather we give money to our enimies and the "fair weather friends" that do nothng for us in return?

I am so glad I watched the entire speech myself. The Associate Press recap seems to have been written by Samantha Bee, notice how half of the article pretty much leaves the UN Speech topic and quickly looks for ways to divert to the liberal recap of anything else. Good times;
UNITED NATIONS (AP) President Donald Trump delivered a sharp rebuke of global governing at the United Nations on Tuesday, drawing headshakes and even mocking laughter from fellow world leaders as he promoted his aggressive "America First" agenda and boasted of America's economic and military might.
Trump arrived late, forcing a last-minute scheduling switch, then received polite applause but also blank stares as he took his blustery brand of policies to the annual General Assembly.
Speaking in triumphal terms, Trump approached the address as an annual report to the world on his country's progress since his inauguration. He touted economic figures, declared that the U.S. military is "more powerful than it has ever been before," and crowed that in "less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country."
Five sentences into the president's remarks, the audience began to chuckle and some leaders broke into outright laughter, suggesting the one-time reality television star's puffery is as familiar abroad as it is at home. Appearing briefly flustered, Trump smiled and joked that it was not the reaction he expected "but that's all right."
The moment only reinforced Trump's isolation among allies and foes alike, as his nationalistic policies have created rifts with erstwhile partners and cast doubt in some circles about the reliability of American commitments around the world. Since taking office, Trump has removed the U.S. from the Paris climate accord, promoted protectionist tariffs and questioned the utility of alliances like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in furtherance of what he termed on Tuesday a strategy of "principled realism."
In addition to the keynote speech, Trump is to chair a meeting of the U.N. Security Council on the topic of countering nuclear proliferation on Wednesday. His four days of choreographed foreign affairs were designed to stand in contrast to a presidency sometimes defined by disorder, but were quickly overshadowed by domestic political troubles.
The fate of his second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, was in fresh doubt after a second allegation of sexual misconduct, which Kavanaugh denies.
Drama also swirls around the job security of Trump's deputy attorney general. Rod Rosenstein was reported last week to have floated the idea of secretly recording the president last year and to have raised the idea of using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.
At the U.N., Trump seized his opportunity to assert American independence from the international body. He was unapologetic about his decisions to engage with the erstwhile pariah North Korea, remove the U.S. from the international Iran nuclear accord and object to U.N. programs he believes are contrary to American interests.
"We reject the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism," Trump said.
He referenced a long list of U.N. initiatives, from the International Criminal Court to the Human Rights Council, that his administration is working to undermine.
"As far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy and no authority," he said. The U.S. is boycotting the Human Rights Council, arguing it overlooks abuses by some and serves as a venue for anti-American and anti-Israeli action.
"The U.S. will not tell you how to live and work or worship," Trump said. "We only ask that you honor our sovereignty in return"
Trump's denunciation of globalism drew murmurs from the room that stands as the very embodiment of the notion.
Barely an hour earlier, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres defended international cooperation as the only way to tackle the challenges and threats of increasingly chaotic times.
"Democratic principles are under siege," Guterres said. "The world is more connected, yet societies are becoming more fragmented. Challenges are growing outward, while many people are turning inward. Multilateralism is under fire precisely when we need it most."
Other tense moments included Trump's criticism of Germany's pursuit of a direct energy pipeline from Russia, which drew a dismissive headshake from a member of the U.S. ally's delegation. His mention of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar all in one breath, was received by stone-faced Saudi officials. The UAE and Saudi Arabia have been boycotting Doha since last year as part of a political dispute tearing apart the typically clubby Gulf Arab nations.
The laughter in the first moments of the address evoked a campaign line Trump frequently deployed against his predecessor Barack Obama who embraced international engagement suggesting that due to weak American leadership, "the world is laughing at us."
In 2014, Trump tweeted "We need a President who isn't a laughing stock to the entire World. We need a truly great leader, a genius at strategy and winning. Respect!"
Appearances on the global stage tend to elevate the stature of presidents both abroad and at home. But even before his arrival for the annual gathering of world leaders and diplomats, the desired image was being eclipsed as Trump was forced to confront the salacious and embarrassing in the controversies over Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh.
With cable news chyrons flashing breathless updates about both Beltway dramas, news of Trump's foreign policy moves from the U.N., led by a new trade deal with South Korea, struggled to break through and disappointed White House aides.
A year ago, Trump stood at the international rostrum and derided the North Korean leader as "Little Rocket Man" and threatened to "totally destroy North Korea."
"It was a different world," Trump said Monday of his one-time moniker for Kim Jong Un. "That was a dangerous time. This is one year later, a much different time."
Trump praised Kim as "very open" and "terrific," despite the sluggish pace of progress toward denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
The president said the location for a second summit with Kim is still to be determined, but officials have said Trump is holding out hope it could take place on American soil.
Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday signed a new version of the U.S.-South Korean trade agreement, marking one of Trump's first successes in his effort to renegotiate economic deals on more favorable terms for the U.S. Trump labeled it a "very big deal" and said the new agreement makes significant improvements to reduce the trade deficit between the countries and create opportunities to export American products to South Korea.

Let the games begin, love how the number one sponsor of world terrorism claims to be violated by US Guess they miss the old days of pallets of money followed by countries falling all over themselves to do business with them, for nothing but lies in return. Perhaps it's going to take less than 8 years to undo 8 years of anti American actions by it's last President. Today's fictional account of the US; UNITED NATIONS (AP) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani accused the United States on Tuesday of trying to overthrow his government, rejecting bilateral talks after President Donald Trump predicted stepped-up U.S. sanctions would get Tehran to negotiate over its nuclear program. Addressing world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly, Rouhani accused the Trump administration of violating "state obligations" from the Obama administration by withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal that Iran signed with the U.S. and five other major powers. "On what basis and criteria can we enter into an agreement with an administration misbehaving such as this?" Rouhani asked. "It is ironic that the U.S. government does not even conceal its plan for overthrowing the same government it invites to talks." Rouhani invited the U.S. to come back to negotiations within the U.N. Security Council, which endorsed the nuclear deal. There, he said, both sides can listen to each other. "Beginning the dialogue starts with ending threats and unjust sanctions that negate the principles of ethics and international law," he said. In remarks released while Rouhani was still talking, National Security Adviser John Bolton doubled down on the decision to withdraw from the deal, echoing his president's strong language and using blunt language to dismiss any entreaties from Tehran. He called the scrapped Iran deal "the worst diplomatic debacle in American history." "According to the mullahs in Tehran, we are 'the Great Satan,' lord of the underworld, master of the raging inferno," Bolton said in remarks prepared for delivery at a New York meeting convened to oppose Iran's nuclear ambitions. "So, I might imagine they would take me seriously when I assure them today: If you cross us, our allies, or our partners; if you harm our citizens; if you continue to lie, cheat, and deceive, yes, there will indeed be HELL to PAY," Bolton said. The capitalizations were included in the text of the quotes released to journalists. Rouhani, in his General Assembly speech, targeted Trump in language if not directly in name. He condemned "recklessness and disregard of some states for international values and institutions." Rouhani laid into leaders who believe they can "ride public sentiments and gain popular support through the fomenting of extremist nationalism and racism" and through what he called "xenophobic tendencies resembling a Nazi disposition." Trump, in his own speech, said Americans "reject the ideology of globalism" in favor of what he called "the doctrine of patriotism." He also blasted what he called Iran's "corrupt dictatorship." Rouhani also said U.S. sanctions against his country amount to an "economic war" that's disrupting trade and will harm people beyond Iran. Trump's administration has reinstated sanctions on Iran after pulling Washington out of the multinational 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran. Trump says the deal was a "horrible" agreement that didn't do enough to contain Iranian "aggression." In remarks earlier Tuesday, Trump predicted that the pressure from renewed sanctions would force Iran back to the table to negotiate. But Rouhani noted that Iranians has endured sanctions before and "can overcome this difficult phase as well."

It doesn't pain me at all, I detest the UN (and want them kicked out of NYC forever, and for the US to pay the same funds to them that Portugal does, and no more).
I used to want for us to quit, but even idiots can be useful, on occasion.
Laughter is OK, it's shooting (and throwing shoes) that ticks me off.
So much of their BS globalization program depends on our money and active participation, that all they can do is laugh (then choke off camera).

Never been a fan of the United Nations. It was a remake of the League of Nations which we opted out of after WW I. The laughter at the UN when President Trump spoke was just that, a bunch of politicians who hold themselves in very high esteem when they actually accomplish nothing. Here are the ten things supposedly accomplished by the UN 1. Promoting Women’s Rights 2. Fighting Hunger 3. Alleviating Rural Poverty in Developing Countries 4. Reducing Child Mortality 5. Protecting Consumers’ Health 6. Wiping Out Polio 7. Containing the World Drug Problem 8. Responding to HIV/AIDS 9. Combating Terrorism 10. Halting the Spread of Epidemic Which of these has the UN actually accomplished? Number 6. It is attributed to the UN but On March 26, 1953, American medical researcher Dr. Jonas Salk announces on a national radio show that he has successfully tested a vaccine against poliomyelitis, the virus that causes the crippling disease of polio. Number 9 Countries that support Terrorism still have a seat in General Assembly. The difference, in this case, is that when President Trump makes a statement, they are now well aware that he does mean what he says. They can laugh but they have never been exposed to a US President like Donald J. Trump. Interesting times are ahead for the United Nations.

I think they laugh to keep from crying. They know if America does not pay the majority of the costs they will crumble and be no more. This is what happens when you put America first.

Being laughed at is not easy, handling it gracefully in a public setting is a sign of great character and if Trump can maintain his focus and direction for another two years he may well end up with the last laugh. Trump may imbellish but he doesn’t outright lie as our previous President, that was sad.

True. Their only real goals are wealth distribution/leveling and ruling the World. That East River land is too valuable to leave to people who hate us. Let the UN move to Brussels, where they will fit right in. I remember going through the UN Building tour in the middle 60's. I imagine it's about ready for the wrecking ball now, in many ways.

I guess it could be worst, last time he said he would 'totally destroy North Korea'.
You don't think that maybe, just maybe, his tough talk is what convinced Kim Jong Un to come to the negotiating table?

...all these years in, and "they" still haven't figured out that what makes them clutch their pearls in horror at him is exactly why "we" love him.

Nervous laughter. He called 'em all out, told them he's no longer going to give them free money, and said they re going to have to pay for their own defenses. They can mock him, but he's the first one putting on the brakes as far as giving away my tax money!

I can't remember being so proud of a US President while addressing the UN...
Oh wait, yes I can. I remember feeling pride every single time the President of the United States went to the UN,
.........and wasn't laughed at.
Yes, I remember now.....
Doesn't that bother anyone here?
And that's your main talking point about his speech? Talk about blinkered and closed minded.

Shame you didn't notice the word "appeared" in the report you linked to. Do you disagree that Germany is becoming dependent on Russian oil?
