I agree with the premise of the premise of the piece quoted by Pete, that Angry Men may well have a deciding impact on the mid-term elections, and add that they will certainly have a larger impact than the media's polls will predict; people of a conservative mindset are less likely to take the time to answer pollsters' questions.

One thing that I want to push back against is the high value we place on 1. intellectual superiority, and 2. being a "man's man":

1.  Anything we are born with or born into should not be considered an inherent virtue.  It is what one does with what he is given that we should consider the value of.  I know several people who would never be considered especially bright, but whom I am proud to call my friends because of how they apply the resources they have been given.

2.  I know well one man in particular who doesn't do any of the "manly" things listed, and doesn't have the skillset or aptitude required to do most of those things, but is known, rather, for patiently teaching music, for loving his family, for his generosity, and for his integrity.  I can do, and do do, many of the "manly" things listed, but I aspire to mimic his character.

Hey guys I'm going to let you in a little secret

The Trumps, the Clintons or any of the presidents and their families...

They don't give a poop about you. You're nothing but trash to those kind of people. It's crazy people still can't seem to realize this...

Just make your money and be nice to people.

Yea that is a bit cynical don't you think? Most presidents yes. The Clinton's and Obama's for sure. They are only in it for the money plain and simple. But Trump walked away from his billionaire lifestyle to become president for NO pay to bring America back from the brink of disaster that was the Obama administration. Is he "one of us"? No but he sure as hell treats us a whole lot better any past presidents. Especially the dems......

Trump didn't walk away from anything. He is still a billionaire and runs his companies from behind the scenes.  The reason he decided to run was for the same reason everyone with money wants....Power. He is still doing pretty good stuff for the US, but he isn't doing it for the little guy. Once you realize that, you will see him for what he and all others like him are.

I am going to say this one more time because you are not listening.  YOU WORRY ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY AND WE WILL TAKE CARE OF OURS. OK'... Trump is doing more for America then your moron in charge is for Canada but I don't say anything about him because it doesn't effect me. So just STFU.
Your seem to be operating under the misconception that American politics only affects Americans.

you seem to be operating under the misconception that America should do only things that benefit Canada.
I have no idea what you're referring to.  You're response is akin to "I know you are, but what am I!"
Whatever dude. I'm sure some scripture is soon to follow.

Man o man, you guys are very testy today.  Are you mad because we didn't roll over in the NAFTA negotiations....hmmmmm, or maybe you guys need yoga...

Well Trump was right.  He got rid of NAFTA and now the Agreement is called USMCA.  Or should we say NAFTA with lipstick on it??  Canada seems to have gotten got what we wanted, the US seems to have gotten what they wanted and Mexico got what they wanted. A good deal all around.
I am not a supporter of Trudeau, nor a Liberal, but I have to say that our External Affairs minister did a pretty good job condsidering what she was up against.  We will know for sure in the coming weeks if someone gave more than they should have.

You guys are still missing the point. Trump is putting American FIRST. Any leader that doesn't put the needs of their own country ahead of others is not a leader. Trump is putting the needs of this country first and for most over the needs of other countries. I'm sorry you guys don't get it but that is not our problem. America was once a country that didn't need help from anyone. We were the leader in production of most things we needed. Steal, aluminum, oil, coal ect... We didn't need it from outside sources. But over the years stupid policies like NAFTA changed that. Jobs went elsewhere. Plants closed. Cheep junk made in China flooding the market, bad trade deals all around and our economy suffered as a result. If Trump's policies hurt your country you can either grin and bear it as we have done for decades or buy the stuff you need from some other countries...

It takes 3 full time jobs to run a multibillion dollar international enterprise, and he's doing that behind the scenes of being President of the United States of America, which is like having 4 full time jobs.

So, if he's so incredible, being able to run the most powerful country on earth AND one of the most profitable businesses on earth, why aren't you giving him the credit he deserves?  I mean, only a genius could pull that off, right?

Good for him and good for America, if it turns out that way.  You've missed my point:  Canadians, and most anyone else, really, have a right to comment on what goes on in America, first because of the (small d) democratic idea of freedom of expression, but also because almost everything America does has a direct effect on the rest of the world, particularly the countries with the closest relationships with her.  Pierre Trudeau put it well, even in my opinion as an Alberta-born-and-bred, conservative-voting Westerner: "Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt."
