I was riding home last night down a road with a few sweepers.  I noticed that I almost exclusively counter steer with my left hand only, push and pull.  I say almost because there are times I ride through curves with my left hand on my thigh.

Anybody else seem to use the left hand alone for counter steering?

Never gave it thought but now that you mention it.....?!?

Maybe it's because the right hand is busy controlling the throttle most of the time. Thanks a lot, now it's going to bug me until I get back out on the road.  Grin I know when I have the cruise engaged I often will relax with one hand either on my leg or the side of the tank, and it's usually the right hand getting the rest.

when I screwed up my left bicep a bunch of years ago I got in the habit of doing that right handed and really never stopped on the Valk.

Sometimes I wish I had even wider bars on the Valkyrie to make that easier for me but that aint gonna happen

I think it is bandit who said way back when to me about the push pull is the same result as if using two hand and he was right

Good point.  I think the Bandit does all his counter steering with his left only.   Wink

Same here, don't know why but I've wondered about. I am left handed though.

No, I actually use both, mostly using a push not pull. I do not use a throttle lock, so single handed is using the right with push/pull.

Do not know why I do it this way, but for clarity I was originally left handed and changed to right handed. I do some things left and some things right and some either way.

I do use my left a lot riding the valk, brake and throttle on right seems as good a reason for that as any.My ZRX needs both Evil narrow bars and higher speeds demand it.

I've found counter-steering by always pushing just feels intuitive. Like pushing, you are pushing that side of the bike down, into a lean into the turn. ( My bikes are set up with tall risers, so the bars are rotated down, close to the tank.  In fact, for full-lock turns, I move my leg out of the way.) That's how I explained it to an old riding pal who had been out of it for over 30 years and had never heard of counter-steer.  However if I am resting my right hand then I might do all counter-steering with my left hand for a little while.  Especially since I installed the Rostra electronic cruise control which, once tuned properly, works quite well.

I use both sides, but with a bias towards the right hand. In an emergency, I would be pushing the handle bar to  steer in the desired direction.

For once agree with Mr. Head (just kidding).  I to tend to use left to push/pull.  Maybe even more than the 72.8% of the time.  Old problems with right arm are to blame.  Have to think about it a bit if use right hand.  Right hand is busy with the throttle/brake.
