One of the regulars at Two Wheels of Suches has started bringing his Vespa that he's been working on for a while.

It weighs 190 pounds. It's 35 hp.  Revs like a turbo. Runs on racing fuel. 19 mpg. Pulls wheelies in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

WOW,  that Vespa was either stock 150 or iffy being 250cc and that much HP is INSANE.  I doubt a 50cc even modded heavily can have that much HP.  If HP figures are correct, that is the equivalent of our near 800lb. Valks having around 140hp - NOW that would be AWESOME wouldn't it!   cooldude

Pretty cool the exhaust is wrapped up under the side cover hidden.

Agree, never knew they had 3 gears I thought most all scooters were automatic belt driven?   Normal scoots have front/rear brakes on handlebars so unless that right side down low lever what appears to be a rear foot brake is a gear shifter, no idea where shift lever is?   I guess heavily modded is correct.  Wouldn't we all be in shame loosing to say 50 mph vs. this Vespa?  I wonder what top speed is having that much hp, I bet over 80 mph, however, seeing that bald slick dinky front tire I would not trust it holding up for very long.

I like the one mirror way down low on left side, wonder what he can see on the right side behind him?  My scooter mirrors are a joke as well they are so far inward that I have to bend my head to the side a few inches to see behind me since my wide shoulders block 1/2 of what would normally show behind me.

A sleeper scooter for sure,   even my 19.3 hp (had to throw that .3 extra in there) being 249cc single cylinder is no slouch but probably would be embarrassed if I lost to that Vespa.  Off the line up to 40 mph is no slouch, but runs out of quick steam much past that, with top speed 78 mph on level pavement.    People do not believe me it will go 78 mph level pavement (faster than the equivalent very similar 250cc honda reflex) but I verified it holding onto my handheld GPS and goes above 80 mph downhill but up steep hill with my big keester on it more like 75 mph is all.

Very cool! Bet that little bugger rips!

Speaking of leathers....

I work with a lady who is now in her 60’s.  15 years ago she was talking to me about bikes, as she had seen me ride in to work on my Wing.  Said that she had a bike, and maybe we could go riding sometime.  Me being the nice person, said perhaps we could if our schedules lined up.

One day I see her leaving work (I work at a hospital), and here she has full leathers on...leather jacket, pants, and gloves along with a full face helmet.  I think to myself, I finally get to see what she rides.

What I saw still brings out a chuckle... here she is riding away from where she parked on a white Vespa... with a whicker basket on the back.

I later learned that she was riding it one day on a busy street, and hit a pothole, which popped her front teeth out (guess they are fake) and she stopped in traffic to try to pick them up.

Pull clutch lever in and turn grip at the same time to change gear. Turn it back to go from 1 - 2 - 3.

On the flat with following wind it will pull close to  100 mph.

The engine is 177cc and has been heavily modified from lighter flywheel to the custom exhaust.

That's a race slick tire.

When he started it I videoed him going thorough the parking lot and onto the main road. Excellent panning and zooming.

Then realized I hadn't started the video.  uglystupid2
