come to my ride next year, visiting Manhattan is optional *not part of the fall color ride

So far have not had any complaints as we are north of the city and just minutes from really great roads that are empty

Heck even Gig was riding his bike into the city for good food and good times

I once saw NYC from the Amtrak train.

That was good enough for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed NYC. The traffic wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be either.

Takes me back to Sundays with Fall colors in the 60's along the back roads to Tarrytown, with no goal but to be the first to spot a Good Humor truck. Merritt Parkway in CT was great, also, and crossing the Tappan Zee, "just because". Got a pretty good spanking (wasn't considered child abuse then) in the right shoulder of the Statue of Liberty, but that another story... angel

I've been there twice. Once on my bike, the second delivering a semi load of  coats downtown. Met some nice people and some of the most rude people I've ever met. Everybody in a hurry and drive like idiots, and this was b4 cell phones. Can't imagine now! They invented tailgating! Won't go back

I always enjoy visiting NYC when I have a chance. I've got some old friends that live in Manhattan, so I get to see things that I probably would never know existed. The food is great, lots of cold beer. Hell, there's even a Red Sox bar! Great times when I can make it.

If you've never seen the 9-11 Memorial, you owe it to yourself to make the trip if you're in the area. Carve out a day just for that.

And I'm happy to say, Oss has allowed me to participate in his Fall ride three years in a row, now. Always a good time.

Everyone is different in what and how they want to enjoy and celebrate holidays.
NYC on Thanksgiving is the last place I want to be but, to each their own.   I hope Fudgie enjoyed the experience.

I travel (or did before my crash) a bunch.   I frequently turn down opportunities to transport to such locations.    Don't care, the frustration and potential to run over some cage that is looking to get a big insurance claim just isn't worth it to me.    I have to assume that the other idiots scurrying about on the asphalt simply don't realize my truck/trailers and load don't possess world class braking capability.   Oh, I have great brakes but, 60 to 0 won't happen in the length of a Prius.....   Roll Eyes
