Just the latest of Many new lawsuits involving newer drugs. What's the lead time now from introduction of new drugs to lawsuits? 3  4  5 years or maybe a bit more? Seems like a LOT of newer miracle drugs have some side affects that at times seem worse than the disease they were designed to either cure or at least mitigate the symptoms. And Before you ask-cold wet rainy today!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

If you actually take the time to read all the published side effects (that always ends in death), you may be dead from the underlying condition anyway.

So, back to the O.P. I've been wondering since my swabbie friend posted this, what kind of prescription drug has the possible side of effect of penis gangrene ? Luckily I've been healthy enough so far in my life to have no prescriptions. But, I would like to log this one mentally for future reference.  Wink

Don't recollect the name of the drug but I believe it were a diabetes drug. Seems like a bunch of the "new" drugs released in recent years are now headed for some sort of litigation. And according to some or a couple of these law firms HUGE payouts are either expected or have already transpired if one believes the hype put forth by the skinny blond(s) with the annoying voice(s). What piqued my interest was when annoying skinny blond mentioned genital gangrene. Had NOT heard stuff like dat since Uncle Sugars Canoe Club. Curios minds and likea dat with obviously too much time on my hands. One has to wonder what would transpire if Ivory Soap were just recently introduced!  Lips Sealed While I can't recall the name the V A has taken me off of a arthritis drug that had I taken it long enough might have eventually been the cause of my demise.  Undecided IF I happen to hear the drug(s) mentioned fer this genital gangrene stuff I'll add it to the post. RIDE SAFE.

I wonder often who thinks an acceptable side effect of a med for things like bad skin, and the like, is possible death? I could see maybe taking a chance on a life threatening disease or condition, but, so many of the dangerous ones are not life threatening. Shocked

Several diabetes medications but the ones advertised in the litigation opportunity are Invokana and Invokamet.

If you read up on it it is said to be very rare.

The issue with these sorts of diabetes drugs is they aim to lower your blood sugar by filtering it out at the kidneys. The kidneys are really not ideal/intended for that, and you end up with very high sugar levels in your urine, leading to (in men and women both!) UTI's and yeast infections and the like that can be VERY resistant to treatment.

Related issue is while high blood sugar itself IS damaging (mostly to nerve tissue and eyes and such), it's not the entire problem and just magically "porting" it all out of your blood doesn't fix the issue. It's high because you are not producing enough insulin and/or you are insulin resistant. This means your healthy cells (non-fat cells) are starving, while tumor cells, fat cells, bacteria in your urine and the like are having a banquet. This makes you prone to infection, tissue necrosis, and other organ damage...and these drugs tend to make that even worse. But hey! The blood sugar's down, right?

Regarding the lawsuit though...there is a class action suite pretty much on any drug made to treat any serious condition...especially things like the diabetes drugs (and cancer drugs), as patients are likely to eventually succumb to the effects of disease itself...most of which are the same horrible things as the side effects of the drugs. All these lawsuits do is make the drugs that much more expensive and make a bunch of lawyers rich.
