It was cool no one around and no cars could be heard in the distance and almost total darkness. The clouds had shifted a bit and you could see the red in the distance among the navigation lights. It was much darker than the pics show you can get a hint from the navigation lights being bright. If I had a bed roll I would almost be tempted to set it out. The water was splashing up against the lock making the scene just about perfect.

Looks like something out of the sci fi flick its actually a big power station in the everglades at night. Pulled over to the side of the road backed into a driveway that goes no where in the middle of the fields and a ditch on either side shut the bike off and total darkness. The moon had not come out yet and the smells of the fields and moisture in the air was awesome. There was a car once in awhile and while I was worried about something crawling out of the canal I was enjoying it to much and it was to peaceful to leave for awhile. It was close to the road and the cars go by at about 80 since its a road in the middle of no where. Even the cars going by were a bit strange, its like you would watch and they had no idea you were there. The light from the camera on the phone seemed so bright and was the only light to be seen in my area and once you shut that off you vanished. I left the bike lights on so you could see the road a bit.

Nice pics.

Not sure I would have taken the time to do it though.   I'm not fond of things that crawl out of the swamp and most surely do not wish to meet them.   Wink
But, glad you did....

I know there are deer in Florida, just not as big or as many as here in WI, but hitting a deer one would imagine would be less scary than hitting an alligator crossing the road at night especially.  Glad no alligators in WI, but believe it or not,  there have been 2 separate incidents of cars hitting COWS in the middle of the road at night both within 20 miles from my house the past few years.    Not sure which is worse, hitting a COW on a cycle or an alligator?  At least the cow would not eat you right??   coolsmiley

Actually more than alligators and more than deer I worry about wild boar running on to the road. Have seen a few alligators on the road squashed though, I think its too cold for them right now. I used see many in the canals next to this road but lately have seen only one. I would think that most of this land being farming for cane would be pretty free of any real problem, but there are areas that are pretty bushy.

Couple of weeks ago I had a friend of mine killed on his bike when he hit a deer up north of Holland. Unless I have to, I quit riding years ago at deer 30.

Nice pics!

Sorry to hear about your friend.

With the new Valk I have lights lights in the lower cowl and with the LED headlight on high the visibility is pretty good to the side as well to the front down the road. But riding in deer country at night would make me think twice.
