I had posted a couple weeks back asking about anyone having a gall stone attack. Mine kicked in for a short time, then suddenly I was treated to an episode strong enough to make you lose your religion. After meeting with my primary dr., he requested some tests so today I went for a complete blood workup(that ought to really suck after Thanksgiving) and an ultrasound. The good news....the kidneys are clear....whoohoo! But...a big BUT; as the tech was checking the gall bladder I heard her say "oh my!" I suggested she hadn't found any gold in there, she laughed and said "if we did, you could sell that sucker and pay cash for a new car." Then turned the screen so I could see the returns. Oh my indeed! She showed me the outline of the gall bladder and said "that big bright spot just above the opening is your nugget and most likely the source of your pain 'cuz honey....it isn't going anywhere." My primary dr. will get the results by week's end after the radiologist reviews them. My guess is he'll refer me to a surgeon or a gastro type dr. to determine what's next....probably will want to remove the gall bladder and be done with it. Later this afternoon I meet with my urologist to schedule a biopsy of the prostate, seems Bruce(DDT) was right when he greeted me at the Fla. gathering a couple weeks ago with "hey old man, seems like we are two imperfect a'holes!"  We're facing the same issue and spent a few minutes commiserating over our seemingly age related imperfections.

Once I get this plumbing overhaul, I should be done with it for some years to come. I hope I get to put it to the test for at least another 15 years, then after reaching 95 I might not care too much.  Wink

John,

Ahhhh, life and the journey along its path... Funny how the things that occupy our time and thoughts evolve over time...

Once I was chatting over breakfast with a couple of long time pals of mine. It seemed as though all we were discussing were ailments of one sort or another, and recent procedures and surgeries... I even wondered if perhaps we'd embarked upon some sort of competition, as each new revelation would prompt another from some other member of our small group...

I finally mused out loud... Guys, when we first met, all we talked about was sex and the pursuit of sex! Now look at us!!! Our evolution had gone from sex, to cars, to hunting, fishing... golf, families, careers... and now... I wonder what might be the next phase...?

DDT

P.S. Good luck with the outcome of your 'stone'... I'd suggest making them remove it by 'C' section, though... You obviously don't want to attempt to dilate and pass anything like that!!!

You're right on that one. That's not what Strider defines as "passing a good time." At least the urologist(not my special name for that field of medicine  Wink) gave me a temporary pass on the biopsy today when I told him of the new fly in the ointment. Like you, I'll be glad when this is all behind me....come to think of it, I guess that's where it is now.  Roll Eyes

Gall bladder is no big deal anymore, getting it out I mean, unless there are special circumstances. Had mine out years ago laparoscopically. Up and around in no time.

John,
As our personal chronographs keep spinning forward, it seems a lot of our plumbing gets leaky, plugged up, or otherwise restricted.  Those things are an aggravation to be sure but the good news is that most such annoyances have an easy surgical fix available.  Robotics in the operating room are a real blessing!

Anyway, I have heard that kidney stones and gall stones are very painful.  I hope your experience is not so painful and that the problem gets eliminated quickly.

IF, (and I hope you never do) have a kidney stone, you will know it. There are only 2 people I would wish them on, anyone else, not so much.

Kidney stone.....Oh I've had that lovely experience, spent a week in the hospital from one about 10 yrs. ago. This was altogether different, still not a fun day at the park by any means. At the moment the kidneys are clear and the gall bladder isn't galling me. But after seeing the size of that gall stone I figure it won't be long before it hits again so I want the whole thing out of there and be done with it.

I never had stones of any kind................yet.

It seems that all I can offer here is what everyone is experiencing; nickle and dime stuff like an old car.
well, not really nickle and dime but higher on the dollar chain.

At going on 91, I've had about 28 cystoscopys on the bottom end and about 20 or so on the top end.  The good stuff is that I can now pee like a 20 year old and, due to cataract removal, i've got 20/20 vision without glasses (haven't had that since the 4th grade.) The vision gives me the ability to see the obits of all my friends now.  I also can walk slowly and sedately, as befitting the occasion, to go to the viewings at the funeral home.

However, I'm still on the right side of the grass and, except for PMS, I'm ok. I just don't post stories here any more.

I'm 45. Middle age (one can hope, anyway). I've already had a few medical run-ins, but still looking at the flowers from the top so far. Well, not this time of year, but y'all get the point. Two things come to mind here. Youth is wasted on the young. + Getting old isn't for the faint hearted, but it beats the alternative.

Best of luck to you all with all of your concerns. Stones don't sound like anything close to a good time.

My primary dr. got the results today from the radiologist, then I got a call from his nurse. They referred me to a general surgeon, I have an appt. with him next week to set up a time to remove the gizzard.  Grin

John, take this advice for what it's worth. But I know years ago guys were selling bear gall bladders to Asians. Maybe $500, if I remember correctly. I'm thinking your 82 year old (?) gallbladder can be passed off as 12' Kodiak Brown Bear. By my calculations with inflation thrown in, we can sell yours to some eager Sichuan Chinese for approximately $3600 in today's market. If you desire a partner in this clandestine venture, consider my services available.  Smiley

Hey Rob,

Reckon there might be a market for a well-used prostate? I may have one available in few days... if the medical folks don't beat me to it... John may have one too in short order, so maybe...

Rhino horns, bear gall bladders, shark fins. I see no reason why a “seasoned” prostrate wouldn’t be of value to some obscure society somewhere. I will put out my feelers for a market price. (You guys don’t get rid of too many parts now. We don’t want to flood the market)

Seriously though. You guys take care  cooldude

I told my wife I was going to have the stone encased in clear acryilac so she could wear it for a necklace. If I move quick enough I can get it for her for Christmas. Her answer was classic, something to do with nobody will see it where I plan to put it. Use your imagination!  Wink

Of course I was joking, don't think she was.  Grin
