These and other stories need brought to the top every time the DC statehood issue comes up.
NO DC statehood (ever, under any circumstances).
VA got its part of DC back in July 1846. If necessary, give the other part back to MD (they can have it).

Many moons ago my dad worked as a CDL instructor teaching folks how to drive 18 wheelers.
According to him, about every other class at least one student would ask if they needed a passport and/or special paperwork when crossing New Mexico.
(He had some other doozies too, my favorite was the student who was positive you'd get better fuel mileage going north to south then you would going south to north, since going north is uphill, since it's "up" on a map...)

It's not just Government. 1996 Olympics and some customers were being told that ticket sales were only for the USA not New Mexico. Stoopid is all around.
