He was part of the Greatest generation that saved us from the Germans and Japanese and at such a young age.  I did not always agree with him as President, but have always considered him a Great American.  Rest in peace.

Navy fighter pilot in WWII. There sposed to be on You Tube video of him being rescued after he was shot down on a Pacific island raid. I M H O as a politician he showed more common sense then most. Considering some we've had in office since he weren't That bad! Bot I KNOW that's subjective. RIDE SAFE.

Was lucky enough to be working the White House doing telecom work when he
was in office.
I have to tell you that both he and his wife Barbara were two of the kindest people
of power that I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
One story I have told before was one day when working down one of the hallways
in the residence part of WH Barbara came down the hallway and Secret service agent
went to push me into a room to side. Seeing this Barbara yelled at the poor agent Hay
Henry it,s only me let the man do his job. With that she also added and you know George
would tell you the same.
That is the kind of people they were, they treated everyone as they wanted to be treated.
This is one hell of a man and the last that I feel was truly deserving of having the office, very well qualified.

I certainly had differences of opinion with his policies when he was in office. But I never once thought him to be crooked or dishonest. I always felt he was an honorable man, just a bit misguided... Cool

The Bushes were from a different era than today, when you could disagree with their policies without it becoming personal. And THAT'S what is missing from politics today.

My sentiments exactly:  Didn't always agree with his politics, but never questioned his patriotism or love of country.  I wish a bit more of him had rubbed off on junior.  Rest in peace, sir.

I will just post what Brett Baier  wrote about 41.  It kind of agrees with what Shortleg penned above.

you need to do more research. CIA, before and when he was director.  some info indicating he was instrumental for companies to move overseas.  go back far enough and the bushes where preachers in 1700's.

I would like to add one more thing to H.Ws thing about thinking about others.
As president at Christmas time he would stay in the White House rather than
Going to Maine because it took more secret service personnel when he traveled.
So he would stay at the WH so more of the staf could stay with family at that time
Of year.
This is probably the only President that though this way.

When President Reagan passed I was in DC on business, my wife and I were staying at the Watergate Hotel.  The day he passed they told us we had to move to another hotel because they had contractual obligations to house heads of state other dignitaries under such circumstances.  When I got back to the hotel there were a half dozen black suburbans parked around the hotel, always with occupants.  They moved us to the big hotel up near the Cathedral, the Marriott I think.  I still don't know how they got my cell phone number, I never gave it to the hotel and my secretary said no one had called.  Although traffic immediatly got worse, I'm glad we got to witness it all first hand, one of the few things Washington does well.

It would be the ultimate as a Father to get a tribute and eulogy like George gave his Father. That was  moving to say the least.

cooldude I didn't get to see it live yesterday, but have seen it a few times now. Makes me tear up every time. I also liked what John Meacham the historian said. Evidently he also read it to HW this past summer. 41 said something like "that sure is a lot about me". What a humble man he was.  cooldude
