First I lose out on buying a bike off Craigslist, now this. I had ordered some new fork bushings for the Valk since I'm in the midst of some time related maint. which includes new seals. This evening I got an email telling me in big letters that delivery took place at 4:53pm today and was placed in the mailbox. Well, no it wasn't....and if it was it was either stolen or placed at the wrong house. Thing is, I was home all afternoon and delivery was supposed to be by the USPS but all we got was some advertising. I didn't see if it was the regular guy, he knows me and my name so I know if he was on duty it would have been placed on the front porch behind a decorative wall. That makes it impossible to see from the street, you have to actually walk up to the front door and move some chairs. I do know the fill-in drivers that work the area on our regular guy's day off often deliver to the wrong house so I'm hoping for that. Kinda hard to do though since our house number is in 3" high black numbers on the side of the mail box. I sent the vendor a note about it but was too late in the day for a response. I really hope it's next door, I hate waiting another 10 days. If it was stolen, the guilty imbecile is in for a surprise....unless he owns a Valkyrie and can use them.

I have had similar things happen John with the USPS. Mine said "no secure location to leave package". You know where I live so there is no more secure location than my front porch out here in the sticks. I also read a few days ago that supervisors were telling the postal delivery folks to say packages were delivered before they were given the package or doing it ahead of the delivery guy actually getting the package as it helped the supervisor's bonus to have things delivered on time or ahead of time. I think it will show up today.

with USPS a lot of times delivery means at the post office branch that will deliver it to your address. My packages are delivered to my PO Box, so I see that happen a lot a delay of a day before I can pick it up.
I use the actual post office street address and use Unit # for my PO box #. the post office will receive packages this way. UPS knows about it, Fedx knows about it esp after I would have to educate them on it and they call the post master to verify. and other shipping companies know about it. many times they just drop it off at the loading dock. The post office actually encourages this and are the ones telling me to do it. shows more activity to that branch.

John, I live in a retirement community, sorta like condos. The mail boxes are all together at the end of the street. Individual small boxes with locks on doors all in a big door that opens up all for the mail man to put the mail in the individual boxes. It's very easy for a sub to put mail in the wrong box. What can happen is that the senior opening his/her box might just throw the wrong mail away in the dumpster right next to the mail boxes. A great arrangement..........not. The good news is the boxes have locks.

FWIW John...I've had packages intended for me delivered to the wrong address on several occasions. One incident where I KNEW it was delivered to the wrong house and I talked to the owner of the house. They denied receiving the package. Several trips to the Post Office and talking to the supervisor I learned the PO can and does use GPS tracking on PACKAGES, not normal letters/mail. The PO was able to confirm my package was indeed delivered to the wrong address and confronted the homeowner with GPS tracking data, date and time of delivery etc. and the homeowner "suddenly" remembered and found MY package in their kitchen - OPENED, of course. Was able to finally retrieve the undamaged articled. PO took no responsibility for their error, the homeowner was not punished even though they knew they had not ordered the article but I did finally get the item about a week after scheduled delivery.
That was about a year ago and no issues since that time but who knows what the future will bring.
Good luck!

Some years ago, we had a different issue. A group of three munchkins (5yo or so), decided they wanted to train to be mailmen, so after the mail was delivered, they went around pulling it all out of mailboxes (often, one had to lift the other one up high enough to reach in), shuffling it up, then redelivering it all up and down the street.
At some point, some moms discovered this training exercise, and did their best to make things right. I just sat and watched (and laughed) from the window. Most of my mail is junk anyway.

The previous Canadian government started the process of converting all door-to-door residential delivery to "super mailboxes", where they install lockable mailboxes throughout residential areas, typically within a block or two of every home. I wasn't happy when my neighborhood's mail delivery was converted to this system just as a new government was elected that promised to stop installing new super mailboxes in existing communities. Now that I've used the new system for a couple of years, I really appreciate it, especially for package delivery. If you get a package that doesn't fit in your mailbox, they put it in a larger box dedicated to packages, and put the key in your mailbox. When you've retrieved your package, you put the key in the outgoing mail slot. If your package is too large for this system, they try to deliver it to your door, and if you aren't home, they leave a notification to retrieve your package at the local post office, requiring ID.

The folks on either side of us are good people and have been there many years. On the south side we actually have each other's house key and security system password. If it was delivered to either of them by mistake, I won't know until later today since both family members of each home work and the PO doesn't deliver until late afternoon. I'm seriously thinking of not bothering to reorder, reason being the existing bushings don't look worn and the seals weren't leaking. I just want to get the forks back together and be done with it for another 20 years, at which time I'll decide if I want to continue riding. Probably won't be able to find a gas station in 2038 anyway.

The arraingement of a central location for a development's mail delivery is more efficient for the PostOffice. The USPS is requiring new developments to do this here, but they are not (as of now) retrofitting older neighborhoods.

Well, they finally arrived....but at my neighbor's house two doors up. And they were delivered today, not yesterday as the tracking info stated. I kidded the gal that lives there, told her since they were delivered to her she has to install the parts. She said "OK, then I'll have my new driver's side window motor delivered to you next week." Guess I'll do it myself......then again she does bake a fantastic apple pie which I've sampled every holiday the last five years.

I know there are ups and downs in expectations in life that are frustrating, but as I think about this small rant and I think how blessed we are to have you here John. I would say you won the day you left that hospital.
