Got invited to be a charter member in a new riding club. I said I need to think about it and read the bylaws, etc. Well, I learned a few things about motorcycle clubs. In Tennessee, any club must be blessed by the Outlaws motorcycle club first, and it is a big ordeal going through the process of getting this blessing. But that's not the funny part. Upon reading the bylaws, it said in one paragraph, all makes of motorcycles are welcome....Further down in the bylaws it said, "only members riding American motorcycles can be officers on the board.... When my friend asked me again what I thought about it, I stated your bylaws are kind of messed up. He asked why. I told him, "according to your bylaws, you nor your charter members are allowed to hold office. I continued, I am the only one in the charter group that can hold office, since I ride the only American made bike in the club! He said, what do you ride? I reminded him. It got interesting after that. He went on to tell me he does own a non running 1988 HD. We laughed about all this of course. I declined the offer to join his RC.

Smart man! Are they really "their own club" or in reality are they governed / overseen by the Outlaws? I think you made a wise choice.

In the early days the Valhalla Six Guns was a Valkyrie based MC outta Texas.... I dabbled in it, wearing the patch, going to CoC meetings, etc. etc. etc.
Didn't take long to realize I ride to get away from politics, bureaucracy, bylaws, etc. etc. etc. and walked away from that.
Those that enjoy that sort of thing, groovy for ya'... But definitely not for me.

I hope everyone understands that is a joke and that mostly the outlaws are very poorly thought of in TN. And mostly laughed at.

I rode with a big SCRC county chapter (not outlaws) until their petty rules and regulations and criticism of my expert riding led me to blow them off some years ago.
You're not allowed to stand up on the pegs.
But we are rolling though this hick town at 5 knots and it's a 100 degrees and I'm just blowing the heat and sweat off my body (and skillfully straight and level).
You're not allowed to stand up on the pegs. _______________
You're not allowed to pass people when we are riding in formation.
But the guy ahead of me is falling back a quarter mile from the group ahead, slowing down to 15mph in every turn (and is a lousy rider) and there is no formation back here.
You're not allowed to pass anyone while in formation.
Blow me, and sayonara pal.

I was never fond of any riding club. You always get the following in every group: the hot head, the slow a$$, the know it all, the stop all the time person, the I don't want to stop person and the guy that has to ride like an idiot. When I ride, I do it to relax and not to wonder if the dip $h!ts in front of me, or behind me will take me out.

I am definitely not a club, follow bylaws type rider. It just is not for me. I cannot figure out the lure to belong to a motorcycle club. It was a fun jab at my friend though. Pete, I don't know anything about the outlaw club, just what I was told by the friend starting up the new club. Yeah, all those cannot's, do not's, will not's and shall not's are for some kind of mentality I don't line up with. Whatever, he's my friend and if that's what they want to do, it's ok with me. It was funny, and I don't mind showing them my made in USA tags on the Valk and ask where theirs are. Geeze that pisses some of them off.

Look, there are a whole book full of rules that every cycle rider should follow, and even more good rules for group riding: No being a dickweed, dangerous, putting others at risk, drinking much or any alcohol, riding next to someone who doesn't like it or you don't know, braking wildly for no reason, running off the road from inattention (making everyone stop to help you and your bike), running out of gas because you thought your half tank was good enough at the last gas stop...... it's really a long list.
But when club ride leaders just start making things up because they can or for some kind of motorcycle political correctness, then I'm out.
The other main reason I stopped riding with SCRC is because they are always looking to add new (often brand new rookie rider) members. I'm as happy to see people take up the obsession with riding as anyone. And I've ridden with rookies that do fine. But when three rides in a row has someone go off the road into the woods (when it wasn't even a challenging road and everyone was just putting along), get themselves and their bike banged up, and the whole ride sits on the side of the road while members drag him and his bike out of the woods, I don't feel like riding with them anymore. Call me selfish. I signed on to go riding, not to be a part time bike mechanic and paramedic.
And don't forget.... this is the Valkyrie Riders Cruisers Club.

smaller groups 3-6 cycles I prefer. I once did a ride with 30 or so cycles and too hard to keep the pack together. Some riders were super fast, others were miles behind lagging. I was in the middle of the pack trying to keep the stragglers from getting separated a mile or so behind me. I was never the fastest, but definitely not the slowest for sure since some guys were out for a Sunday stroll so to speak or almost sleeping behind me more like it. I guess the leaders should have slowed down more so noticing the herd being left behind though.

I have to agree with the size of the groups it is much better to be small groups. Many years ago I was a guest on a 500 mile run, it was 250 mile a day for two days and there were about 500 people. We didn't all try to ride together everyone was spread out in groups of starting times but even these groups then rode at their own pace it was a bit of craziness! I'm also a member of a Corvette club which has group runs and frankly they make such an effort to keep everyone together that they end up driving so slow that it becomes very boring!

Always put your clothes in the dirty clothes,
Clean up your own mess. This sounds suspiciously like the well-trained-husband rules.
