Hey Fl Valk riders. I am down here from Missouri for a couple of weeks staying near  Oveido,(Christmas actually). we are planning a trip on the Valkyrie to Key West. Is there a better route than just going down I95 (through Miami)? Would like to avoid some of that traffic if possible. We are leaving for there the 27th and returning the 28th. Thanks for any help you can give

Pappy!

Sure! Take 27.
Not as easy as it used to be but you can still see some of old Florida down around Okeechobee and it won't be the white knuckled ride 95 will be.
If you plan it right stop in Okeechobee and eat at Lightseys!

Thanks Pappy, I'll che k it out

Key West is an all day ride. As I remember, 4 hours from Orlando to Miami area and 4 more to Key West.  Do you have reservations somewhere there? Once you hit the keys it will be slow going.  Some of the towns viciously enforce the speed limits.

I'm not sure of the best route, but do not take 50/Colonial to I-4! If nothing else looks good to you, spend the money and take 528 (Bee Line) and 417 to I-4 to 27.

Another option is south on 441. Take Taylor Creek road off 50. 520 south to 528. 528 east to south 15/Narcoossee Rd. 192 east to 441. South to Lake Okeechobee. Take 98 on the east side to 27. 997 to Homestead/Florida City. US 1 to Key West.

Do not forget, military bases often have all kinds of ridiculous gear requirements for motorcycles.

They won't let you past the gate without it.  (like Hi viz vests, over the ankle shoes, long sleeves, gloves, helmets, yada)

It may be worth a phone call before you leave.... call the cops (or a gate).

STAY on 27 AFTER you go by Lake Okeechobee, more important than north of the lake.  Then 997 through Homestead.  Then I would take Card Sound Road instead of US 1 to Largo, about 5 miles down that road (just before a toll bridge) you'll see Alabama Jacks, a must stop.
