Yeah, I watched it too. I can't believe that it's being talked about. Probably most watch it for the scissor stabbings. I skipped through most of it.  I'm not getting my money's worth from Netflix as I watch 'Blue Bloods" reruns almost all of the time. 90% of the Netflix movies suck.

Haven't seen the movie.  Honestly didn't even know about it but now I'm reading about folks getting hurt and posting videos of such activities on line.

Seems to me that these idiots are bragging about just how stupid they are.

Not the "Bird Box" challenge, but these "challenges" are getting rather..... dumb.

How about the "Let's point loaded guns at each other's heads until one of us accidentally pulls the trigger" challenge?

Second degree manslaughter?   He pointed a loaded gun at the victim's head and pulled the trigger.  Does second degree manslaughter make sense to anyone?   Shocked

A couple of teenager friends were doing the same thing here.

One shot the other dead and as police arrived he then shot himself dead.

Chick-fil-a is founded by Christians.  To this day they are closed on Sundays.

I believe it is related to the company that produces that chicken meal in the box but is never open on Sunday due to the owner's religious beliefs.

Does second degree manslaughter make sense to anyone?

The pointing and pulling the trigger were intentional, but without intent to kill (or proof of same), voluntary manslaughter is the crime.  I'm no Texan, but 2d degree manslaughter is probably involuntary manslaughter (obviating the need to prove trigger pulling was intentional).

Edit: Texas does not distinguish between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter,

They could have charged 2d degree murder (no premeditation, but instant intent to kill), to precipitate a plea to manslaughter.  But it would be an overcharge absent a provable intent to kill.

Believe it or not, very similar (unbelievably stupid) accidents have happened in civilian and military police locker rooms more times than you would think.   Though usually by quick draw competitions (with loaded guns).

Killing while driving with a cell phone at your head (or texting) is about the same level of criminality.  The handgun just makes it look worse, though a fast moving Chevy is just as deadly as a firearm.

Texas has no 2nd degree murder.

And the difference between murder and manslaughter in Texas law is the intent to kill.

https://medlinfirm.com/blog/the-difference-between-manslaughter-and-murder-in-texas/

Under Texas law a murder charge requires intent to harm or kill, not just negligence.

(And 2nd degree manslaughter is a pretty serious crime, 2-20 years in prison)

A 2 year minimum doesn't seem pretty serious to me.

Two to twenty is there to cover the gamut of criminality in unlawful, but unintentional killing.

It's a good thing.

If you are charged with a crime with a 2-20 sentence, it's the 20 you should be worried about.

I'd sure be happy if all the texters and Cphone drivers causing vehicular mayhem were facing 2-20.

Conversely, there's a lot of ways to negligently kill someone without pointing a firearm at them, and if it was your son or mom in the dock, you'd be glad for a two year possibility.

Based on previous experience, Willow may be correct in that assumption.
We need a Chick-fil-a in our small town of New Haven.

On a note to preserve the essence of this thread, I am starting on the book today that which the movie is based.
Speaking of Netflix, "The Ballad of Buster Scrugs" was decent.

I'm amused at your opinion of my thought process and reason for posting.

FYI, I patronize our local store, recently built, about once a month when I'm in the area. I'm always impressed with the courteous and well-trained staff. The store is always spotless, and the employees all do a great job and seem to enjoy being there.

So, you know what they say about opinions and assumptions....

PS, the chicken is pretty good. I don't care for the waffle fries, though.
