Made an offer on a bike last Thursday. We're still a little bit apart. Cant say it would guarantee my being able to attend but it would go a long way!

OK dang it, I can't hold my breath forever.   Did you get the bike?
I assume if you had, you would have told us something.

Rams   :rider:

Well, still no bike in hand. The one I made an offer on is still available and a decent buy but I have located another I think I like better. I have spoken with the owner of the second bike and there won't be much if any dickering on it. It is two years newer and 20k miles less on the odometer, for $1,000 more. I think I feel good about paying the extra because I can get more background on it, the first bike was/is a trade in at an RV dealer and they have not been very forthcoming with details on the bikes history. This coming week should provide some definite results.

As a side note, I have been battling an on and off bout with gout in my left wrist this week. Had a doctors appointment for Monday already scheduled but got it moved up to today. No sleep at all last night, got to get this under control, no way I could operate a clutch lever today.

Prescription Allopurinol.

Still waiting to see pics of that "new" bike.   Is it a Honda, Valkyrie, Wing?   The suspense is killing me.  ;)   Is it blue?

Rams   :rider:

Not blue this time. I'm a little gun shy about saying anything until money changes hands. I have committed to the deal but I have to lay eyes on it before a lay out any cash. But here goes anyway,

John,
Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you.   Should you arrive on THAT motorcycle, it will not be allowed into the special BLUE Parking area.

Sorry but, we have to follow pre-established and agreed to rules.   We'll find some where for you to park with all the other colored bikes.    ;D

Rams   :2funny:

With the reflection off that bike, the blue bikes will be hardly noticed, that is if the sun is shining, you did order sunshine right?

Serk

Well dangit, I was gonna come, but my blue Valk is mostly ridden by the elder spawn now, my primary Valk now is a lowly green one.....  :2funny:
Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

Thanks, I'm a sucker for red and this bike met several criteria for me in the color, miles, condition, and price categories.

My ability to go pick the bike up has been set back a little bit. I was speaking with the owner yesterday morning about what day in particular would be best and my wife comes to me and says, "Desten died yesterday!". Desten is my cousin 2 years junior to me who had two surgeries in February for bone spurs in his neck that were causing him a lot of pain. I am told he was sitting in his chair when he had a spasm, turned white, and was gone. Desten and I grew up together and there were many stretches of time where we were together everyday. A lot of mischief was planned and carried out on my grandfathers farm during those years.

I had not seen him for 10 years the last time being my Dad's funeral. I had plans of inviting family to a get together this summer once I got the house remodeling done and Desten would have been at the top of the list. Desten had a great life, great wife, great kids, and 13 wonderful grandchildren, he will be missed by many.

Well that is a great looking RED Wing. I've only seen one other that red. Maybe that of Charlie McCready :???: I hope it works out that you can bring it to the MS Madness Inaugural event.  :coolsmiley:

You do realize that now that you're retired, you do have the time to ride to Mississippi?
It's gonna be a good time and John has told me in private conversations he might come regardless of the almost (not) blue bike purchase.

Rams
I appreciate the invite. We are still holding out hope of taking our motor home to Alaska in May. Mucho stuff to do still. It's shaping up to be quite the shindig. (Do they say that in Mississippi ?)

Ron,

You can add another name to the list of attendees... Bert Lamoureux (not sure if he'll be riding his Valk or F6B). He and I did some riding yesterday, and I kinda spilled the beans about your upcoming thing... Well, one thing led to another, and he decided he wanted in on all the merriment I sort of hinted may be part of the deal... He enthusiastically volunteered to contribute to the mix. I expect he'll shine at the liar's session you plan to hold, too...

He lives about 20 miles from me, close to Ocala, FL., but outside the city in the Ocala National Forest. He's a very good rider and a nice guy... He'll fit like a glove with our bunch!

Ron,

I'm getting more than a bit nervous as this thing draws nearer... I've been diligently searching my mental archives, but so far I've come up blank... and, I'm struggling to keep panic at bay. You've mentioned having some sort of a 'Liar's Session' a couple of times, but I just can't seem to dredge-up anything suitable to contribute! I seriously don't want to let you down, but... be advised it's looking like right now I'll be simply another meek onlooker in the audience...

I take comfort in knowing many of the likely attendees who are well qualified in this area, and who are guaranteed to keep the rest of us in stitches... I hate to do this to ya, ol' pal, but I thought I'd better let you know in advance. Of course, if there happens to be a hootchie-kootchie gal or two in my room when I arrive, then... well...

I am still uncertain.  I had my 6 week post op appt today.  The doc says I am not cleared to ride yet. However, I am not well known for following orders.  (Hell, I barely take suggestions.) Anyway, it is suppose to be nice here late next week.  My plans are to rest the hand as much as possible this week and then try to ride local next weekend. I will either confirm or reluctantly bow out after that excursion.

Nick,

When Bert mentioned you might want to ride up with us, I was most pleased! We both recognized that your work and other commitments, etc., might be a problem, of course, but we both were still looking forward to the possibilities. Sorry you're not going to be able to ride along on our 'longcut', but we're all still hoping you can make it somehow... I have my fingers crossed! We'll be looking for you...

DDT (12)

Ron,

Right you are! Decisions do indeed have consequences, and if he doesn't already, then I'm sure at some point Bert will come to appreciate your... caveats... I called Bert a little while ago and told him how I saw the weather forecast shaping up and impacting our plans... I pitched an alternative at him that would have us leaving tomorrow morning and riding through east Texas to get to Hattiesburg, but that would offer the best possibilities of missing any rain... We'll see how he does with this proposition to gauge what sort of longcut taker he might just be... In any event, we do still plan to show up at your thing, even if we are forced to do a more 'traditional' type of ride... No plans to stop at 'Gilligan's Island'... so far anyway...

Ron,

Yeah, Mac is the man for getting things done, for sure! Over the years he's pulled rabbits out of hats, supplied parts and/or assistance when all appeared lost, and generally saved the day on too many occasions to count... Even though that feller does tend to cycle lots of various types of scooters through his stable, he is still a Valker at heart, plus he's downright congenial and a good guy to have around at functions like the one you are hosting. I'm really looking forward to jawing with him some!

I have an update on my own plans, if you're interested... Bert called me back yesterday and informed me he was unable to reschedule his doctor's appointment next Tuesday morning to any date closer than a month or so out. This is an important one to him, he went on to say; therefore, he plans to keep the one he has... He did release me to take that longcut if I wanted with no hard feelings, but... I declined.

Nope, I'm going to stay with him and leave here Wednesday morning and see if we can pick our way through the moisture mine-field betwixt here and there set to happen early to mid week next week. As you said, the later week and weekend look stellar! I'm confident we can avoid the nastiness, but if we guess wrong, there are always reruns of 'Andy Griffin' on motel TVs to watch...

Fact is, I'd allowed myself to get plum worked up over the prospects of a really nice, extended longcut, so that call turned out to be a bit of a let-down, frankly... Oh well, I told my landlady it just could be fate protecting me from myself again, so I wasn't going to mope around about it too much. Nope, and Bert had sounded so sincere and plausible with his explanation, I couldn't help but accept it as fact and not consider it merely a polite avoidance mechanism... Truth be told, I think he just might have been as disappointed as I was... I'm starting to suspect this guy just might have some latent coddiewomple potential!

DDT (12)

Ron,

Yeah, all the locals I know up there are keepers for sure! I am getting more excited each day, as I contemplate sharing war stories once again with some of my very favorite peeps in the entire universe! All being there gathered around your flaming water experiment (talk about protective gear being a good idea!!!), and exposing themselves to all the sky-falling perils we're daily bombarded with and warned of by the MSM... Oh, I think I'm going to start referring to them as MSP, just so you'll know, since they have long ago become the Mainstream Propagandists instead of news media people...

FYI, I see Punisher, Warlock, and Cool Breeze will also be in attendance... I definitely include them in my 'favorite peeps' category, too, right along with you and Alice, Mac & Elna, Danny and Charlie! And, of course, many folks near and dear to my heart from other more distant places are all headed that way, too... So, I hope I can count on you to keep eye on this simple wanderer, as I do tend to get carried away while celebrating such a reunion of family!

See ya down the road...

DDT (12)

Ron,

I'm getting so worked up over this, I think I'm going to unpack then repack my bags again today... So far, I seem to have noticeably reduced the enormous weight of those carry items, as I've culled some non-essential junk from them!

Funny how crap can accumulate over time... Do I really need all that extra coffee? How many sets of drawers do I actually need... same goes for other apparel items, too? Most motels do have on-site laundry facilities, after all. And, tools and parts... really? Me?

A guy I worked with once upon a time who'd been transferred around quite a bit used to say, "Two moves are as good as a fire!" I think going through bike stock stuff like this can have a similar effect... Not a particularly pleasant chore, obviously, but one I may repeat from time to time... Helps me lighten my load a wee bit, but it also gives me an outlet for excitement, as I impatiently wait for KSU and still not-a-straight-line, shortest route course for Hattiesburg... weather pending, naturally...

Don't just dream it... LIVE IT!
