starter button blowing fuse when pushed
roadmap:
my starter button blows my running light fuse when i push the button.. the lights stay lite ok they don't blow a fuse just under normal conditions. just when i push the button. the light goes dim like it supposed to do the whole switch housing is new just a few months old and the starter sylenoid has been replaced new also that was a long time ago like last year. i check it no signs of it bad.
the only thing i did out of the way different i washed the bike with the seat off that was yesterday it blew fuses yesterday as soon as i put them in. today fuse stays good till i hit the starter button it got me drinking allot go figure.. fuse are about a .80 now apiece at auto zone..went through 10 fuses already not sure, need help
also brake light works ok and headlight, all other acc. don't blow. front turning signal, brake running light and dash lights.are whats goes out 1997 140,000 miles
X Ring:
Sounds like you've got water in the electrical system. I would start by removing the fuses and relays and drying them out.
roadmap:
need advice how about by passing the starter button so the running lights do not go dim when you push the button it only blows fuse when i hit the button i went over everything. starter relay good no burnt marks new.. starter button.. new bought it new a couple of months ago been working fine i just took it apart check it, ok, just put some new electric lube on the connection .. i put dual relay on headlight to protect my new switch they been on since the switch was new. headlight works ok if relay was bad it would blow my headlight not my running lights. how about my ICM could this be shorting out. what other relay, not the turning signal lights they work ok and do not blow as well as my brakelight. fan everything checks. not sure if washing the bike did it i don' t drive much at night it could of been out a while.
man i blew a fan on it last night then a hair dryer for a while no water on anything
still what got me is the fuse don't blow,, everything works great so how do i check for a short when it doesn't show bad, no fuses blow under normal condition, just when i hit the button it blows this i know is hard to answer wonder if mark T or somebody that does electrical work reads this
roadmap:
one last thing to write about the new starter switch works ok because it dims the headlight when starting. i keep going over things nothing ads up
John U.:
The starter switch is supposed to cut power to the lights while connecting power to the starter relay. If it is only dimming the lights it isn't working properly. The lights would dimm anyway due to the draw of the starter.
