dies irae
ledany:
You are riding back from Marseille heading for home in Paris, 7 hours of serene travel on the highway (500 miles), the weather is fine, it's friday 5 pm and in the traffic jam everybody wants to come back home, in 30 mn you'll be home
unless a car suddenly wants to step in the left lane you are already in.
The car hits you on the right side, the bike goes flat on the left side and you are sliding too on your butt and on the right side.
Thanks to the BMW Tourshell Jacket, thanks to the Dainese Smart Jacket (airbag), nothing but scratches on your buttock. Fortunately the cars behind did stop, you are lucky the drivers were not checking their mails as they constantly do.
The bike is not OK, the head cylinder moved backwards.
Bought the Valk in 2014, rode 231 000 km (143536 mls), changed the clutch (142274 mls) last year and last month changed the alternator (1715 $).
ATGATT is not a bad idea after all !

What a shame :'( Glad you came out without life threatening injuries . You really never know when you'll be blindsided ....... :o
Jess from VA:
Sorry for your troubles Ledany.
Did the driver that hit you stop? Help?
I really hate heavy traffic. It brings out the aggression and impatience in drivers (with predictable results).
Around here (in the US), more insurance companies are totaling vehicles (calling the results of the accident a total loss of the vehicle, rather than repairing it) involved in accidents because the costs of all the parts and labor for repair are skyrocketing (and so are insurance premiums).
I was in Paris once, but I never left the airport. :)
I looked up "dies irae".......(literally, Day of Wrath) and a Latin hymn sung in a Mass for the dead.

I bought last week a Goldwing Bagger DCT, so pretty (frequently complimented as if I was the father ;D)
I love the DCT, so elaborate and easy to use. I do appreciate the brakes which are efficient at last (though I drive very carefully in the trafic jam for the time being, don't no why ;D), the headlights, the electric windscreen. The tires are too big (130 front, 200 rear), the engine is warmer than the one on the Valk (I guess that the cooling system on the Valk is more efficient) and if the engine is more powerful the bike is also heavier : I'm very focused when I U-turn ! :-\
After 1000 mls I understand that you have two driving modes : "Tourer" and you are not in a hurry / "Sport" and you must be younger than what you actually are ;)
Jess from VA:
Awesome. :cooldude:
I went in "sport mode" just yesterday. I had to pee, and I went real fast to find a spot to do so. ;D
