u-joint longetivity

(1/1)

fast black:
Hi all, I have a question regarding mileage before changing out u-joint.    I have  71,000 on mine and  it still feels fine.  I am sure that a lot of the life span has to do with how you ride the bike, but I wonder who has the most mileage without changing  one out.
All input will me much appreciated. :)
adios and thanks

I changed mine at 92K, just for peace of mind. The old one was looser than the new one but still had no play in the clearances. On the other hand, A friend lost his U joint at 42K. It was powder inside the swingarm when I got it apart.

Larry:
Changed mine out last summer at about 75k. Also changed out the wheel dampers, did the dampers first and there was a noticable improvement in the "drive slop" I was noticing. Got the u-joint in a bit later and noticed even more improvment. The old u-joint didn't feel that loose when I took it out but like I said with the new one in it tightened up the back end considerably.

Daniel Meyer:
130,000 miles of enthusastic abuse here...

Willow:
128,000 on mine.  I ruined the pinion gear, but the u-joint is still going strong.
