Drive Shaft Lube
(1/1)
petahb:
I have done the spline lube a few times but never have I attempted the drive shaft. What is the drill for doing it?
ridgeman06:
When I did this for the first time over the winter, I removed the pumpkin completely from the driveshaft tube by removing the four nuts that hold it on. The drive shaft stayed connected as it slid out of the swingarm tube. I then layed the whole thing on my bench and gave the shaft a firm yank and it came out.
Their are two holes in the receiving cup that need to be cleaned out to allow for oil passage.
I smeared some Honda moly on each end of the shaft and re-assembled.
Hope this hels some. Take care, Eric
sandy:
Moly paste is not waterproof and is 60% moly. The drive shaft splines call for 2-3% moly grease. I use Valvoline Semi synthetic grease (3%) moly.

Thanks for the help..I'll give it a shot next time the back wheel comes off.
Airetime:
There are some decent products out there for taking care of the splines and drive shaft but i use Guard Dog as it is specifically designed for our use. With Guard dog, I'd use 570 on the splines and Guarddog 525 on the drive shaft and you will be a happy camper. Don't forget to change out the "O" Rings as mentioned in Shop Talk. No connection to GuardDog, simply a great product that many of us use. :cooldude: Good luck...
