Gary learned that JR from the RI VRCC passed away recently. John was a fixture at most rides. He could always be seen with his girlfriend Dot. He rode a black Interstate. He was a heavy smoker and hadn't ridden in years after falling ill. Here's a picture of JR and Dot from years ago.

In the early days of the VRCC I saw JR frequently. I was riding behind him on the famous December 2001 ride to Narragansett on a week day. A bunch of us played hooky to get together on a spring-like December day. I could hear XMAS music coming from his bike during the ride. It's a fond memory. The pic below was snapped after the ride ended and we were all heading home.

RIP JR

Thanks Tony! That sure was a memorable ride, T-shirt riding in Dec.

I thought we rode to Narragansett and Point Judith. Then I remembered I could verify.

For many years I kept a Journal. I don't do it anymore. I checked my 2001 Journal. The ride occurred on Thursday 12/6/2001. We met at the meeting point around 11 and had lunch at D'Angelo's on route 1 in North Kingstown, RI. There were nine bikes. After lunch we rode south on 1 to 1A south to Narragansett and Point Judith. Just a gorgeous day.  :cooldude:

Thanks for the correction, I knew we went south.

We went on one of the 9/11 memorial rides. JR showed up in only a sweatshirt. By the time we arrived at the first stop, he was shaking so hard I thought he was going to fall down. He had a coffee and continued. it was cold enough that I had my Gerbrings and leather on. They would come over for the Autumnfest parade, I would make dynamites and he would take some home. Many fond memories. May he rest in eternal peace and may Dot find comfort.
