My Sidecar bike is currently without a horn because the front upper frame of the sidecar mounts couple to the bike frame (using the replaced buzz bolt).

So I am attempting to mount two new horns somewhere on the front of the bike.   The best location I have come up with is to mount the horns on the front forks but to do that I will need to find some kind of strap/bracket to secure around each fork.

Suggestions on who might produce/sell such an item would be appreciated.

TIA

I have a Wolo horn mounted to the kick stand cross member. Out of site and VERY LOUD!

Serk

I mounted some LED lights on the cross member between the front forks... I can look closer to see exactly where I mounted 'em but might be an option for somewhere to dangle some attention getters?

That's a nice set up Serk, I like those wings with the dragons. The lights must illuminate the road nicely in front of the tire and certainly alert other drivers down the road.

That could be a good set up for a set of horns, up front and wide open with nothing to obstruct the sound.

BigBF quad horns are just four car horns on the simplest bracket.
I put on new car horns a couple of years ago when I had to fix my
slave cylinder... that cavity is a good place, especially if you don't
want to see the horns.

Seriously considered that location and I like the idea but a bit afraid to drill holes for mounting the horns.

I definitely didn't drill anything to do that. After work I'll go get a closer look at exactly how I did this and try to share some pics.

Okay, so evidently there are 2 bolts than hold the headlight bucket to the cross member, I evidently took 'em off one by one and slipped a bracket in there for the lights...

Sure you could get an L bracket and work something up similar to get some horns in there with a little creativity (And no drilling on the bike)

I did something similar. Got 2 FIAAM horns off Amazon. They came with brackets that I bent and mounted them to the front muffler mounting bolt. Used the OG horn button wired through a relay to handle the extra amps.

Ron, Google "fairing mount fork clamps."

They are available all over. They are an alluminum 2 piece clamp with an attachment point on the side. I have seen them on some aftermarket windshields and batwing fairings.

Originally was going to mount the horns exactly the same way you mounted your driving lights.   But due to the ridges on the underside of the stock bracket there isn't significant space to mount much of an "L" bracket and I am afraid between the shocks of riding bumpy roads and the horns weight is likely to be heavier than your driving lights which I believe would exacerbate the stress on the bracket I installed.  Additionally the bolts being discussed don't have a lot of length to secure a bracket securely.
While I do like that location, I am concerned with it also.

Thanks for the suggestion, this may solve my issue.

I've had a mini air horn mounted here for years. Very loud and lasts a long time out of the weather and road debris. This is a Stebil but Wolo makes the same unit.

Rams

Ok, anyone know the fork diameter in Millimeters?

I think they're 45 or 47mm.

Timbo1

Definitely not 47mm,  I was thinking 43mm but AI says they are 45mm.  And the fork seal driver I bought several years ago goes from 30mm - 45mm and it worked great so I believe AI that they're 45mm.

Serk

Wouldn't the seal related stuff be measuring inside diameter, not the exterior diameter?

I don't fully understand why one would mount a horn to the forks.  With that sidecar one has a bunch of underneath space and, of course, the engine are where ChrisJ has mounted his.  There are a lot of options that don't need clamps on the fork.

Yes your right.  I think 45mm would be the OD of the inner tube.  The OD of the outer tube is more like 55-56mm.  This Memphis shade fork hardware is what I used for deflectors.  But I agree with willow there's probably much better places to mount horns.

with my sidecar being what it is I found that mounting the horn to a tab below the upper front strut mount below the Baker wings has worked just fine. A bit of bugs end up in the mouth of the Wolo but who cares.
Its out in the wind and is LOUD and sometimes wakes up the driver next to me.
The other added benefit on a sidecar is that it blocks a bit of the wind that comes up into your face from between the bike and the sidecar windshield.

Have fun Ron.

Appreciate the input. Thanks.

Currently still considering my options.

Carl,

I have looked at several different locations to mount the two horns but the sidecar subframe adds additional challenges and the places around the engine are very limited.   I want these mounted on the front of the bike if possible.   Considering all possibilities but my imagination appears to be limited.
Mounting below the tank on each side might work, one on each side that is.

I want it right the first time.

Yes, I referred to at the engine when more accurately, as you said, is below the tank.  My minimalized bike has one on each side under the tank.

Actually, if you mount a Wolo you won't need two horns.

Timbo1

I don't know if you have them. But years ago I drilled a hole in the upright post of Baker Airwings and mounted a couple air horns to them. It worked great but years later decided to remove them and all accompanying components.

At the same time I removed the Audiovox cruise control in favor of kiss.  Just to many pumps, vacuum canisters etc.. at the time.

Understood, the new horns are chrome and deserve to be seen. :2funny:

No airwings but something worth investigating.
