In spite of the hot WX, Gary and I took a ride today to Zack's BBQ in South Deerfield, MA. I previously checked the reviews and they were good to excellent. So we gave it a try.

We met at the Dunkin's in Barre, MA at 10:15. After a rest room break and hydration, were on our way. At that time it had just started to warm up with temperatures just nudging 80. We headed west on route 122 to Petersham and then north on 32 to route 2 west. In Erving we took route 63 south to Montague. It's a nice agriculture-view ride with rustic farms and gentle sweepers to keep things interesting.

We got on route 47 west, which was also very nice. We followed it to route 116 N where we crossed the Connecticut River and had excellent views of the agriculture in the Valley. From routes 116/5 north  we took a right on to Elm Street in South Deerfield to the BBQ joint. It's close to the Yankee Candle Factory store. The parking lot is packed dirt and we got bounced around a bit by the potholes. We were more careful on the way out.

The BBQ joint opens at 11:00. We arrived about 11:30 and the parking lot was empty. I had a brief Oh-Sh*t moment because I might have been wrong about the open hours and they were closed. But I spotted the Open Flag and all was well.

Walk in and the order station and cash register are on the left. Gary ordered a Brisket Sausage on a sub roll with fries. I ordered a Brisket Sandwich and candied baked beans for some extra propulsion on the way home. The food was delivered to our table within a reasonable time. Since I can be impatient, I like that. Both meals were very good. I would go again. Unfortunately, neither of us took pictures of our food. Sorry about that.

After lunch it had warmed up with temps varying rom 87 to 93 for the long ride home. We took 116 S to Hadley and then a left on route 9 east to Amherst for the ride home. We stopped at the Quabbin, specifically at the Enfield lookout. It was clear that we're in a drought with a lot of coast line showing.

From the Quabbin we headed east on 9, south on 56 and east on 20 to link up with our respective routes home. For me the ride home from the Quabbin was a little over 1.5 hours. I was glad to get home and into the AC.

I got a text from Gary that said we dodged some big storms in the Amherst and Blechertown areas on the way home. The storms popped after we had already ridden through those areas.  8)

It's good to see that a few of us (old):D  VRCC riders still ride! Thanks for the ride updates. Love those Wings do ya! You guys must have over 50,000 miles a least on them. Wish I had a Wing trike, then perhaps we could join those rides. :???: Oh well, you guys KEEP on riding!! :cooldude:

Thankfully, I'm still riding. You never know what life is going to throw at you. So I'm enjoying it while I can. The 2018+ GW is a blast to ride! I've got 57K+ miles on it. Love it!  8)

I feel fortunate to be able to ride. Definitely not like years ago, and all my riding is solo now, but still on two wheels. You never know what's in the cards for us, but I still think I have a few more years on two wheels before I have to make the decision where I go next. Trike, Spyder, smaller bike? I'll cross that bridge when I get there, meanwhile I'll just enjoy the miles I put on now.
