Gates Timing Belts - Questionable Reliability

While doing some maintenance I was loosening the crank bolt, and the timing belt snapped (to loosen the bolt I use a lever in one of the valve pulleys).

This never happened with OEM belts.

I am left to question the reliability of the Gates Timing Belts.

Anyone else had this happen?

Gates and its Japanese subsidiary Unitta produce the majority of factory installed timing belts for Honda motorcycles. Have never heard of a reliability problem with them. Always a first time though. Might question the maintenance procedure that caused the failure.
