Yesterday's Vermont Ride

Gary and I took a ride yesterday into Vermont. I had seen prior posts from Wall and guys on a Gold Wing board about riding route 30 in VT from Brattleboro to route 7 south to Bennington. That's the ride we did yesterday. It was a perfect day for a ride.

We met at the Dunkin's in Barre, MA at 10:30 and were on are way. We rode to the Wagon Wheel in Gill, MA for an early lunch as there's not a lot off food options in VT. We ate outside and had a good lunch. Afterwards we topped off our tanks at the Mobile station for the long ride through VT.

We took 2 west to I-91 north to VT. We exited at route 5 through Brattleboro and got onto route 30. Route 30 is a lot of fun. Twists and turns, ups and downs, exactly what you'd expect for VT. Along the ride there was a specular view of Bromley  Mountain Ski area. We didn't stop to take any pictures. But I found the same view on Google Street view.



We continued on route 30 and eventually got on route 7 south to Bennington. We didn't ride through Bennington. Instead we took the route 279 bypass to save time. We rode route 9 east to Wilmington for a rest stop. We had been on the bikes for 2 hours plus by then and definitely needed the stop.

We continued on 9 east to Brattleboro. Again a spectacular ride. We got onto to I-91 south into MA where we picked up route 2 east to start heading home. It was the longest ride either one of us had taken this season. It was 315 miles for me and 307 miles for Gary. What a great day!

Great ride, thanks for putting it together. Yep longest ride of the season easily. Needed to break out the Advil mid ride but what's a little discomfort for such a great ride. I feel fortunate to still be able to ride a full day. Although, a full day is not what it used to be.

Sounds like a lot of GOOD riding and fun! Any color on your ride, I read it was a dry season so the leaves are not as colorful. Thanks for the updates.


AND, helping to keep this board alive! Some of my best riding was up to smugglers notch and that area.

Needed to break out the Advil mid ride but what's a little discomfort for such a great ride. 

I hear ya! I took an Aleve tablet before I left the house. I need that 12 hour pain protection for my lower back. 

I took a 60 mile lunch ride today. Along the way the odometer turned 60,000 plus miles. I'm killing the resale value of this bike. But it's just so much fun to ride.




The bike was still hot when I took this picture. Thus the 105 degrees air temp showing.

Any color on your ride, I read it was a dry season so the leaves are not as colorful.

At elevation and in the wetlands, colors were starting to show. According to my favorite Boston area TV meteorologist, Eric Fisher - CBS Boston, NH and VT have gotten more rain this summer than the Boston area. The colors are expected to be good up there this fall.

Some friends and I were up in Northwestern NY over Labor Day weekend. 

Trees were starting to turn. Not many, just enough to remind us of what's coming.
