Texas Hill Country Ride-In 2026

Hello All!

No, you're not seeing things.  Yes, this post is for real.  After a lapse of many years, it's time resurrect the Fall Texas Hill Country Ride-In!  You don't have to ride a Valkyrie, or even a motorcycle, trike, or Spyder to come.  Several people will be there in cars/trucks.

I searched the archives and it looks like we last tried this in 2018, but the weather did not cooperate.  I believe the last time we actually pulled this off was 2016.  Ten years.  How can that be possible?!

So, the basic plan is 3 nights in Fredericksburg, arriving Friday 6 November, departing Monday 9 November.  Ground Zero is the Super 8 by Wyndham at 514 E Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, conveniently located just 0.6 miles from downtown.

They have been great to deal with on the phone, have 20 rooms - both King and Double Queens - blocked off (trying to keep everyone on the same side of the hotel), and have given us a break on room rates.  If you call quickly, they will try to get you on the first floor.  They have more rooms if we need them.

Use "Hill Country Ride-In" when you call for you reservation to get:

• Double Queen: $159 per night for Friday and Saturday.  $70 for Sunday night, or
• King: $149 per night for Friday and Saturday.  $60 for Sunday night.

There are no firm plans once we get to Fredericksburg.  Everyone can do what they want to.  But, there are a few things in the suggestion category.

• There is a motorcycle show Saturday 7 November in Burnet at the Hill Country Motorheads Museum.
• It will be hard to do the show and the three sisters on the same day, so let's do them on Sunday.
• The bats probably will have returned to Mexico from the Old Tunnel State Park, but the Alamo Springs Café is a favorite, and you have to go past Luckenbach to get there.  (The website requests reservations for parties of 6, or more.) 
• The Old German Bakery & Restaurant is a great place for breakfast and lunch!  Several other great steak and German options for Dinner.
• Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries, etc...
• Shopping up and down Main Street for all things Texana, chotchke, knickknack...
• National Museum of the Pacific War.

BUT PLEASE REMEMBER, while we are down there, it is HIGHLY recommended to be back to town or the hotel by dusk as there are LOTS of critters that come out at night.

For those leaving from the DFW, I'll be leading a group starting from the Race Trac at 2804 W University Drive (US 380), Denton, TX  76201.

This route avoids the Interstate Highways and goes through Decatur, Springtown, Weatherford, Granbury, Hico, Hamilton, Star, Lometa, Bend, Cherokee, and Llano, before taking Ranch Road 965 past Enchanted Rock, through Crabapple, and into Fredericksburg.

Good catch, Tom!       So, it's only been 9 years since we watched the bats fly.   

Pack heavy so you're prepared for when we get to the Koffee Kup in Hico and you want to keep going.

Nora and I are planning to attend.  Will be checking in on Saturday and departing on Monday.  We no longer ride; sold our last Valkyrie in 2025. We've got a different wind therapist now.
