Hello All!

No, you're not seeing things.  Yes, this post is for real.  After a lapse of many years, it's time resurrect the Fall Texas Hill Country Ride-In!  You don't have to ride a Valkyrie, or even a motorcycle, trike, or Spyder to come.  Several people will be there in cars/trucks.

I searched the archives and it looks like we last tried this in 2018, but the weather did not cooperate.  I believe the last time we actually pulled this off was 2016.  Ten years.  How can that be possible?!

So, the basic plan is 3 nights in Fredericksburg, arriving Friday 6 November, departing Monday 9 November.  Ground Zero is the Super 8 by Wyndham at 514 E Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, conveniently located just 0.6 miles from downtown.

They have been great to deal with on the phone, have 20 rooms - both King and Double Queens - blocked off (trying to keep everyone on the same side of the hotel), and have given us a break on room rates.  If you call quickly, they will try to get you on the first floor.  They have more rooms if we need them.

If you want to call them directly, the phone number is 830 997 6568.

Use "Hill Country Ride-In" when you call for you reservation to get:
  • Double Queen: $159 per night for Friday and Saturday.  $70 for Sunday night, or
  • King: $149 per night for Friday and Saturday.  $60 for Sunday night.

If you would prefer to book online, please use this link:  https://groups.wyndhamhotels.com/housing/hill-country-ride-in-ihldgo08

Please post back here when you've registered.

There are no firm plans once we get to Fredericksburg.  Everyone can do what they want to.  But, there are a few things in the suggestion category.

  • There is a motorcycle show Saturday 7 November in Burnet at the Hill Country Motorheads Museum.
  • It will be hard to do the show and the three sisters on the same day, so let's do them on Sunday.
  • The bats probably will have returned to Mexico from the Old Tunnel State Park, but the Alamo Springs CafĂ© is a favorite, and you have to go past Luckenbach to get there.  (The website requests reservations for parties of 6, or more.)
  • The Old German Bakery & Restaurant is a great place for breakfast and lunch!  Several other great steak and German options for Dinner.
  • Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries, etc...
  • Shopping up and down Main Street for all things Texana, chotchke, knickknack...
  • National Museum of the Pacific War.

BUT PLEASE REMEMBER, while we are down there, it is HIGHLY recommended to be back to town or the hotel by dusk as there are LOTS of critters that come out at night.

I look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and as many new ones as we can rustle up.

For those leaving from the DFW, I'll be leading a group starting from the Race Trac at 2804 W University Drive (US 380), Denton, TX  76201.

This route avoids the Interstate Highways and goes through Decatur, Springtown, Weatherford, Granbury, Hico, Hamilton, Star, Lometa, Bend, Cherokee, and Llano, before taking Ranch Road 965 past Enchanted Rock, through Crabapple, and into Fredericksburg.

If you would like to meet us somewhere along the way, please let me know so we can coordinate.

This is what it looks like in Google Maps:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/nNzYoHqQVdxQtHy39  (Edited to include a stop in Hico for fuel and lunch at the Koffee Kup.)

Here's something from Oct.20,2017. Might be it.

Hmm. Not sure this posted correctly or duplicated or whatever..
Anyway, if things go together for me I'd be interested in riding as far as the Koffee Kup. Be fun to see everybody again.  :)

I'll keep an eye on this.  I live nearby (Blanco) and could hit Fredericksburg either Sat or Sun.

Disco, I booked a room Friday through Sunday. I plan to ride down with your DFW group. My wife says I too old to make new friends - She's usually right. Anyway it sounds like a great excuse to spend 4 days riding my Valkyrie. Thanks for setting this up.

Looking forward to it, Pete!

Tell your wife that any new friends you make on the trip will be of the older persuasion, so you can truthfully call them old friends...   ;D

Up the road in Burnet on Sat Nov 7

Held on the grounds of Hill Country Motorheads Motorcycle Museum, the Texas M/C Revival has become the premier fall Texas classic motorcycle event. In addition to the machines on display in the museum, the motorcycle show exhibits approximately 200 classic and vintage bikes entered by enthusiasts and includes something for everyone - scooters and minibikes to rarely seen or even heard of pre-war bikes. In addition to prized motorcycles, the Texas M/C Revival also offers a meet & greet with special guests, special exhibit displays, food trucks and vendors such as the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas.

I would loved to have come to this - I really have been missing group riding for a long time.  But I'm helping my better half in Austin until the 6th and leave for a vacation on the 8th.  I wish all of you to have safe rides and a great meetup.  Don't forget me for the next one!

Dave,

Thanks for the PM, I just got caught up on the Texas VRCC forum but unfortunately, I have plans with some of my college buds that weekend.  Sounds like a blast plus you can't go wrong with the 3 Sisters, have a great time.

BTW, I rebuilt my master clutch cylinder, and I plan on finishing it up tomorrow to see if that is my clutch problem.  If not, I guess I will make a comfy bed on the floor and see if I can get the slave cylinder off.
Ride safe,

I will be going to the Burnet Tx show on Saturday.  Then I will be doing the 3 sisters on Sunday. I am bringing some off brand bikes with me and we will be staying at my son's ranch in Menard Tx. We will drive 90 miles to the beginning of the 3 sisters from the ranch and then after the run we will be going back to the ranch.  Hope to see some of you all along the way

Unfortunately I had abdominal surgery last week and I'm not supposed to ride a MC for at least a month.

Sucks, I am missing so many get-together's that happen around this time of year and I was looking forward to meeting everyone in Fredericksburg.  Depending on where you decide to meet for lunch or dinner in Fredericksburg I might be able to join you.  I should be driving by then but not the Valk  :'(

I hope your recovery is quick and complete with no setbacks!

I suspect we will be out and about (on bikes and in cars/trucks) at lunchtime - Burnet MC Museum and Show on Saturday and The Sisters on Sunday - but back for dinner in Fredericksburg before the critters come out.  That should work for a lower impact outing if that's what the doctor orders.  Your choice.

I'll send you a PM with my cell number so you can text me if you're able to get out.

Dang it....weather forcast has changed.  Now 60% Saturday evening and now 70% Sunday....the three sisters ride.  I'm not riding the 3 sisters if it's raining Sunday.  Monday is 3 or 4 % rain so we are going to ride the sisters Monday most likely.....I love being retired....we can pick our riding days.  We will be at the show on Saturday in Burnet but probly will come in the truck.   Looking forward to meeting up with some of you if possible this weekend.

Forcast getting worse...

Leaky Tx weather.....
Saturday 25% rain chance
Sunday 88%
Monday 55%

If this is accurate my group may not make the show in Burnet and ride the Sisters Saturday

The percent chances may be going up, but the duration of the rain is going down.   :cooldude:

As of Thursday morning, According to AccuWeather, Total Hours of Precipitation:
Saturday: 1.0 hour, down from 1.5 hours yesterday
Sunday: 3.0 hours, down from 4.5 hours yesterday

Looks like I'll be working out of town through Friday, so I'll ride in Saturday and hopefully meet up with everyone in Burnet.  (I was planning on going to the bike show anyway.). FYI, I've visited the museum there and it is really nice.

Being last minute, the Super 8 has filled up for Saturday.  I may stay at the Peach Tree Inn that night.  Sunday night is up in the air for me. Depends if the weather holds for a Three Sisters adventure or not.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!  :cooldude:

We stopped in Burnet at the motorcycle museum today.  Great place.  Really enjoyed the visit.  They were getting ready for tomorrow.  Said they have 128 pre-registered show bikes coming.  You all will really enjoy the museum.

Sunday is still high percent rain but if it rains you guys are equipped for it I'm sure.  We are going to run the Sisters either tomorrow or Monday...haven't decided yet.  Wishing you all a good ride and a good time....keep it safe.

We rode the Twisted Sisters today.  I love those roads and that area.  Had lunch at the Bent Rim Cafe....good burger.   Sprinkled occasionally but no downpours.  From Leakey we ran 336 to hiway 41 then got on 337 to Junction headed back to the ranch in Menard where we are staying.  We stopped for a break and gas in Junction and as we were getting ready to leave it started sprinkling big drops.  We jumped on our bikes and headed out and outran the rain.   Had to go 43 miles from Junction to the ranch and got sprinkled on several times.  About 2 minutes after we pulled into the ranches barn it started raining hard.....never had to put on the raincoats. We just really got lucky.  If you all ride the Sisters tomorrow have fun

Road Scholar

Good stuff, I wish I could have joined you.  Next year!

The rain held off here until about 6pm and today seems to be a washout.  I heard the show in Burnet was good.
