Weaknesses in DoD’s financial and management controls left it unable to properly account for $8.7 billion of the $9.1 billion in DFI funds it received for reconstruction activities in Iraq.

I am posting this because it goes beyond politics and really shows how inept our government really is and no one will get prosecuted. I cannot imagine Warren Buffet or Gates loosing 8.7 billion dollars. This is the same government that wants more and more money and now controls health care and the flow of revenue that it brings. These funds were like a trust fund and how many trust fund managers have gone to jail for misappropriation of funds. They could have been used to repay us the people for support in Iraq, to help the Iraqi people or any number of causes its just ridiculous. Not to mention how many bad things did these funds go to. If the government cannot establish policies to keep this in check how are they going to do the same for us. Both current and past administrations are at fault. If we never make our government responsible there never will be accountability.

It is not unknown what has happened to the 8.7 billion.  You're correct, nobody, not even our government, would put up with "accounting errors" of this magnitude.  It's just easier to say, "We lost it." than it is to say what they really did with the money and then deal with the fallout.

You want to know where the $$$$$ went?

Try this on for size.

several hundred $7.98 hammer(s), paid $3,300.00 each.

several hundred $13.00 toilet seat(s), paid $13,000.00 each.

These have all been listed in various newspapers, I know, you say believe nothing in print, only 1/2 of what ya hear.

This sheet all adds up to the deficit.

As I always told the wife, it is easier for me to ask forgiveness from ya, than to ask if you are agreeable with me to do something.

Why blame it all on the government?  What about the bastids (companies and individuals) who have no problem cheating, robbing, and stealing from government projects.  They are every bit as much responsible. Like Medicare fraud.  Someone has to commit it.

I agree with you Strong Eagle the companies that are invovled are to blame. Therefore our government should hold them accountable and take back what is ours. The problem is Our Government past and present is just as corrupt as these companies are that steal from us the american people, and they do it daily.    :tickedoff:

Eagle I agree with you but its who holds the purse strings just like your company if you just gave out checks without qualifying who gets what and then go broke its on your head and the rats go on to sink another ship.
