According to mainstream news sources, a massive 380-million-egg recall has been announced, and these eggs are all so incredibly dangerous that you have to immediately remove them from your refrigerator and take them back to the store where you bought them so that they can be properly destroyed. This is all backed up by phrases like, "It's not worth the risk," and claims that if people eat the eggs, they are taking "too much of a chance."

Pretty scary, huh?

What they're not telling you is that more than 80 percent of the chicken meat bought at grocery stores is consistently contaminated with the exact same salmonella (http://www.naturalnews.com/021258.html). A more recent study conducted by Consumers Union found that two-thirds of grocery store chickens are contaminated every day! (http://www.naturalnews.com/028661_c...)

But you don't hear warnings to "take your chicken back to the store!" or "it's unsafe to eat your chicken!" Ever wonder why?

Egg pasteurization? How do they do that? I've never looked at my food for a recall. Cook it and eat it. Guess I was raised differently then city folks.  :-\

egg pasturization sounds all high tech....all it is , is....they dunk the eggs in hot water........certain temp certain amount of seconds, not enough to start cooking you cant tell cept they put a mark on the shell....Ive never bought an egg that had the mark, and I think Im still alive

From an FDA website

Whole Eggs Pasteurized in the Shell - Traditionally, eggs sold to customers in the shell have not been pasteurized. However, new time/temperature pasteurization methods are making this possible. Egg whites coagulate at 140°F (60°C). Therefore, heating an egg above 140°F would cook the egg, so processors pasteurize the egg in the shell at a low temperature, 130°F (54°C), for a long time, 45 minutes. This new process is being used by some manufacturers, but it is not yet widely available. Pasteurizing eggs reduces the risk of contamination from pathogenic bacteria, such as Salmonella, which can cause severe illness and even death. Pasteurized eggs in the shell may be used in recipes calling for raw eggs, such as Caesar salad, hollandaise or bé arnaise sauces, mayonnaise, egg nog, ice cream, and egg-fortified beverages that are not thoroughly cooked.

Everyone knows to wash the meat, and  their hands, and preparation areas when handling poultry, (at least they should)When properly cooked, its not an issue. I'd love to see you wash an egg yoke. Many people eat their eggs sunny side up, soft boiled, poached etc. It is a big problem.
BTW, I've seen many specials highlighting the notoriously poor conditions of chicken plants...It's not a secret. We've all seen the infamous "fecal wash" video.

They talked about this on the news tonight and said that pasteurizing eggs "would only add 50 cents to the price of a dozen eggs".  That is quite a hefty price increase.

Remember, the contamination is on the OUTSIDE, the SHELL.  NOT the inside.  Read about the pasutization process above.  It only affects the SHELL!

So, all this is caused by poor handling, ie contamination caused by getting the shell into the food, not by the egg inside itself.

They tell you all the time about being careful with meat, wash your veggies, etc.  Same here.  Be careful

Wash the egg, just before you break it, and problem is solved.  Do not wash before, as the egg will not last as long in the fridge.

Well, ready for breakfast.  Going to go to the chicken coop here on the farm, and get a couple fresh eggs!  And, I KNOW these are dirtier on the shell than the ones in the store, and I am not worried in the least.

The salmonella is actually in the yolk of the egg.  That is why it has to be heated for an hour so that the internal temperature gets high enough to kill the salmonella.

Psychotic Bovine

I think we should be irradiating our food.
just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry, but you are misinformed, the salmonella (in this case) is inside the eggs. The pasteurizing process heats up the inside of the egg in order to kill the germs. Of course eggs can get germs on the shell, but that's not why there is a health recall.

Coated CA rants yet again... and to what purpose?  Certainly, he shows his lack of knowledge about the subject upon which he rants.

More importantly though, is the point?  That government should take no role in food safety?  Can you imagine the sh*t delivered to your plate without some kind of government inspection?  Remember folks, it's not the government creating the problem, it's the companies and businesses that give a sh*t about nothing but profit.

A proposal has been thrown out for discussion... given the size of the recall, and the interlinked nature of the gigantic egg farm operations, maybe pasteurization is a solution.

But instead of a reasoned debate, we get a Berzerker that is hollering, 'the sky is falling'.  He ignores thousands of poisoning cases.  And to what point?  PS:  Have you had salmonella poisoning?  Bet you wouldn't be posting this, you'd demand protection.

CA, methinks you've inhaled a bit too much of those coatings.

Ohhhh... I just got it... you think pasteurizing eggs, like putting fluoride in water to protect against tooth decay, is a communist plot, and that RED, MUSLIM, AMERICAN HATING President we have must be behind this.  Pasteurized eggs will lead to the down fall of the good ole USA.  Have I got this right?

MY GOD!!! What do I do with my eggs???  My chickens keep laying them and I just keep eating them.  I have no will power to stop what do I do?

Perhaps I can get a government grant of a few million to install a pasturization process for the eggs from my 4 hens

I think I should also get at least $500k stimulus money to study the social behavior of chickens in confinement to see whether their tolerance of me may actually be Stockholm syndrome.   :uglystupid2:

Possibly you could grow a brain and review the issue in more than juvenile terms... then again, it takes a long time to grow a mature brain... you may have a lot of catching up to do.

http://www.naturalnews.com/029570_egg_recall_FDA.html

what is the FDA's answer, they want to pasteurize and irradate everything, this will increase the food producers profits.

what that will do is destroy all of the ingredients in foods that keep one healthy or just go to the drug companies for yrs to barely live on their drugs.

http://www.lombardipublishing.com/ads/fdnn/index.asp

One type of phytonutrient (destroyed by the FDA's answers) found in vegetables has been documented to reduce cancer 44% in a study by Harvard University. These amazingly powerful nutrients are called glucosinolates.

http://search.mercola.com/Results.aspx?q=eggs&k=eggs   healthy eggs result in short shelf life, less profits for the egg producers.

Is the FDA being paid off? where is the oversite? massive conflict of interest?
