I think I will be on the board alot. First I have a 98 Tourer I pulled the right cover and found that it was held on with a large glob of silicon. The front tab is not broken but there is just square hole in the front cover. I would quess that a rubber gromet would be there. I looked in the clymer book I have and the service manual I downloaded from this board.I also looked on the Honda parts online but do not see anything that goes in there. Can someone let me know i hate to fix it with velcro if its just a missing rubber grommet. Thanks for all the help. Love this board.

I'm not sure which grommet you need but they are cheap from HDL.

I checked there but can't find a good picture of the part I need.
It's the right side cover front tab that goes into the front cover. the tab is intact but on the front cover there is just a square hole and nothing for the tab to fit into.

If you are talking about the front rectangular tab that fits into the center cover, there is no rubber piece that goes there.

If the tab is ok on the outside cover then it is broken for sure on the middle cover. Inside of that little rectangular opening on the middle cover should be a small tab that gets inserted into the hole that is in the middle of the tab on the outside cover. This is what locks the 2 pieces together.

The square hole hooks over a metal tab welded to the frame, I think. You put that tab in first with the cover at an angle, then close the rear like it hinges on that front tab.

Velcro tab on the frame, on the cover opposite the frame tab, push them together when popping on the posts through the grommets, replace when they no longer hold.  hoser

Just thinkin out loud here but culd you possibly fabricate a "tab" out of a heavy duty staple or something similar by bending the ends at a 90* and then maybe JB welding or something like that to the center cover for the slot on the side cover to slide into?

End up looking something like this:

        I
   ___I
   I
   I
   I___
        I
        I

Just fixed mine today with a piece of metal bent to 90 degrees.  Drilled and held in place with a pop rivet. Going to paint the rivet tomorrow.  I think it came out OK.  Hardest part was getting the center cover off of the bike.  Mine was on the left side and with the lock for the seat release on that side space was limited.  On the right side I think you will have more room to work.  Might recommend a piece of strapping material and make sure you put the rivet back far enough not to interfear with the tab on the side cover.

I would like to see the pictures of your fix. I was sitting in the garage trying to come up with a fix. I was thinking of a metal clip the tab would go into but I can't figure how to hold the clip in place.

I went out and took some pictures.  Figured it would show up better before I paint it. I hope this helps you.

Guys, don't make it harder than you need too. The cover is made from ABS plastic, who has a house that doens't have some ABS glue around for plumbing. Cut a small piece of ABS plastic to match the size of the missing tab, the other side should still be there, and glue it into place.

Look over the few pictures I have of the cover.

Too bad you don't have the broken off piece, then it would just be a matter of gluing. Since it's missing, you need to prep the cover to mate to the new tab, flat and square.

I haven't found anything stronger than a plastic welder for ABS plastic. most bodyshops have one on hand and shouldn't charge much to weld the piece for you......but I would probably go the glue route first uglystupid2
