What kind of throttle lock is this?

Found this on a bike on the fleabay.  Anybody know what it is.....or have any experience with it?

I believe that is a 'Vista Cruze'... It is probably the most popular one on the market.  Some are bike specific, and one model is 'generic'.  I had one on my Valk for many years, but replaced it with a Stainless one made by a member here (RP).

It does work on the Valkyrie, especially with the stock grips.  With the Kury grips, ya need to shave some of the rubber off the inside of the lock 'ring'.

I have had one for about 6yrs and it works great. The best part is it don't need any batteries or fuses. I paid about $29 for it.

Excuse me for hijacking this thread.  Thought some of you might be interested.  Here is my modified vista throttle lock.  I didn't like that black plastic bar.  So, I removed it and made two small polished aluminum parts.  No more bar!

Just about every bike shop of any size will have it or can get it.  I might mention that I too have one, however, it was the "cheaper" one (as I remember about $20)  and does not have that "bar" thing on it.  Been using it for years with OEM grips

I just saw it listed at Aerostich for $35. You can probably find them cheaper, but I like supporting them since they're nearby and everything they make themselves is 100% American made.

Some people have simply turned them upside down on the bar.... hiding the linkage underneath.

Yup... Vista Cruise. Ten years after, with Kury grips. I purposely left mine with the ugly bar rotated up high so the only part of the kill switch readily available was the kill part. The kill button has only been used one time... when I traded bikes with a buddy once. He used the kill switch. Later that day I wondered why the scoot wouldn't start. I like the polished tube concept. Yrmv,

Thanks for all of the replys.  I found one on ebay and ordered it.  Price was 32 bucks.....so that compares to most everywhere else. 

Ordered the #074041 model.  I think I got the right one.

If you rotate it 180º it's not as noticible, and you release it with a finger when rotating the throttle down, easier then thumbing it up and then rotating the throttle. I find that if it's tight enough to work when locked, it gennerally holds the throttle where it is on my IS. I seldome lock it unless I'm going really slow; and there's little chance the throttle will snap off when released, so it's not really safe.

The Visa I have with the bar with my Kury grips don't work worth a crap, if i set it so it holds, than the grip won't snap back, have to turn it with my hand. If I set it so the grip returns, than it won't hold. How do I find a median here???

I used a small 1" diameter drum sander to make it fit the throttle sleeve.  Easy to do.

I had similar trouble with binding.  I loosened the allens holding the ring onto the grip.  Move that ring around until the binding is gone and tighten it back up.  Took a couple tries, but is working great now.

Mine took a little work to get it right with the kury grips. I only use it in the mornings to hold my throttle open at warm up. Do use it occasionally at speeds when I need to do something with both hands. I saw one at the dealers a few weeks ago. It was $10. Guess I should have bought it.

I've got the Cam-lock (made by the same guy who makes the rooster-n-lock, which has been discontinuesj). It's beautifully finished and much easier to use than my old Vista cruise. The tension is adjustable so you can tune it to the way you like it. Looks great on the Valk. Took me about 20min. to install.

Exactly.  I'll give the Vista Cruise a try. If it doesn't work out so well then I'll look at the Cam-Lock or other options.  They might be nice, but every one I've found is pretty $pendy.

That "cam lock" works exactly like the "vista cruise" that I have on my Valkyrie.

The only difference being the "cam lock" is metal while mine is plastic. Being 1/3 the price I like plastic best.

Have had mine on the bike for at least 9 years with no problems.

That's one extra I won't be treating my newly aquired Valk to!
It's a luxury on our roads to maintain the same speed for more than a minute or two, unless you drive (at the same speed as) a truck.

Back when I  had my old 1100 Gold Wing it had what looked like a Vista-Cruise, but it was all metal.  Loved it, I when I got my Valk, I added the current Vista-Cruise.  While  it works fine, I also picked up one of the $8 "Cramp Buster" or similar plastic things that slip on the end of the grip & lets you use the heel of your hand to congrol the throttle.  I couldn't do without one of these now & rarly use the Vista-Cruise.  I think they are about $10 now & just slip on & off.  If you have never tried one, they are great.

The instructions that came with mine said it needed a different rubber to use with my Kury grips
all I did was shaved down the rubber and it now works fine

I was able to get the medium gasket to work, but I had to really force it in there.  WD-40 is your friend.  I worked on it for a good 20 minutes.  The wiring that came out of the start button were in the way of the bracket, but it still was able to work.  I just got back from a test drive in the neighborhood.  I adjusted the set screw once after the throttle stuck.  The spring I think got caught in the metal wrap holding it together.  Nothing to worry about, just roll the throttle forward to decelerate.  That's why I tested it at 25 mph instead of 65.  Overall I think I'll like it.  I'll use it some on the way to work tomorrow and really break it in on the way to the Veteran's LBL Ride.

I think that cola-colored brake fluid will kill you before the throttle lock!

Back in the winter of 98, I bought the Aussie Cruise Control, electric.

I think it is the best accessory I added to MGM.

I can set it anywhere from 28 to 90 MPH, it will stay + or - 2 MPH till I shut it off.

Nice thing I like about it is, I can set it to highway traffic and not worry about my speed fluctuating enough to get me a citation.      My old Vista Cruise cost me a citation of $250 for 6 over.     I was in the flats I thought of Kansas, with it set, none of my credentials were on me, so I got a speeding ticket, no CWC on me, had my service revolver in my belt in back.     He hauled me back 60 miles to see the Judge in handcuffs, motor was on a truck and went into the impound yard.   That was another $300    Judge tossed the book at me on the speeding citation and chewed both of our asses, me for no CWC card on me and him for not checking with the dispatcher, didn't have computers in their cars then, to verify I was or was not an LEO..

So I went electronic, lots cheaper cost wise........

However Vista Cruise is great for a short run on flat ground.

Generally, the consensus is that LEO's will allow 10 MPH over the posted limit and that is pretty well accepted throughout the USA.

So if you get a ticket for say 6MPH over the posted limit you were probably clocked in the neighborhood of 20 MPH over the posted limit. The LEO's generally give you a break to avoid confrontations.

Attitude is the all important factor.

I've been using the Vista Cruise for several years now. It does help but like someone mentioned earlier, as soon as the road changes, incline/decline, or heavy winds, etc, you will be compensating.

I use mine religiously on trips and do frequently adjust to accommodate the changing road conditions. By doing this you are now adjusting the throttle while it's under the tension of the compressed ring and causing that added stress to your wrist, hand etc.  

If properly adjusted, you should be able to adjust the tension to your liking and should be able to make slight adjustments to the throttle while still holding enough when needed.

You do need to periodically add a bit of oil under the metal grip ring to allow for free movement. I try to do this every couple years or when it begins to bind due to dirt and debris.

I think the end grip that was mentioned earlier was called a Kuryakyn Throttle Boss. This allowed you to control the throttle grip with the palm of your hand to offset the pressure from gripping that throttle for long periods of time.

I got and tried one for a while, definitely less than $10 back in the day, but never really could get use to it. If you weren't careful you could easily accelerate or twist the throttle unintentionally. Part of the adjustment period I'm sure.

Once, with the Throttle Boss attached and sitting astride Black Beauty, I was leaning over to pick up my dropped glove on the right side, was holding the throttle grip with my left hand to retrieve the escapee glove with my right (not recommended) and it revved like a mo fo. I think I experienced some slight crowning.

In any event, the easy on/off rubber end attachment or Throttle Boss can provide some relief for cramping, etc but does take some getting use to. I think I ended up keeping it in my bag but never really ended up using it after the Vista was in place.
