Many years ago, when Hank was at the height of his career, I got to spend a week with him on a one on one bases.......we got drunk together, ate, fished and rode horses...talked about life and heard the many stories of the antic's he and his friends had done.....I'd definitlely let him work on my Valk, I found him to be a man of his word, his said he'd do something for us down the line and 3 mos. later it was done....I guess if I had to compare him to someone you know personality wise it would be SmokingJoe,  I've heard Joe sing and we can't can't find any similarities there.. ; ;D

I certainly noticed that his song was missing from the show and mentinoned it to Tracy, they tried to get rid of him a few years ago and the fans didn't like it and they brought him back, I hope that's the case again.... :cooldude:

Damn Don...I need some face time around the fire in a couple of weeks to hear the rest of that story.

old tiger, i truly feel sorry for you. you sound like a bitter old man. why do you feel compelled to insult any one that MAY not agree with your thoughts politically. i am a live and let live type of guy. leave me alone and let me keep some of the money i earn. i am willing to help out someone down on their luck as i am sure most everyone on this forum would be. but as soon as you and a few others think you hear republican you start calling names.... WELL IT IS TIME YOU GREW THE F UP. that is what makes the world go round, different ideas. not everyone will think alike, otherwise this would be a very boring world. and by the way old tiger how is that tax hike you have to deal with out there in chicagoland.... :2funny:

Thousands upon thousands of Americans gave their lives in order to help bring an end to that evil madman's bloodthirsty reign. It's disrespectful to their sacrifice.

That someone would callously associate the name Hitler with with the office of the President in any way, shape or form makes me see red.

In case you've forgotten, view the pictures of the piles of emaciated bodies of men, women and children being bulldozed into open pits or the photos of the "lucky ones" who survived as walking skeletons and the looks in their eyes (their health being the least of what they lost) haunted by watching their loved ones herded away to be systematically exterminated and being powerless to stop it. Some of those people survive today. How do you think THEY feel about hearing some turd-for-brains redneck throwing that analogy around? Well look at them again to remind yourself of just what it means to associate that name with ANYONE not truly deserving of the comparison.

I feel the same way about a lot of the elected Progressives continually calling Tea Party members "terrorists".  yet, you do not call them on that.

Or, how about Maxine Waters telling them all to "go to hell".

At least be consistant.

I never understood why 2 grown men (or 4) would want to drive around get out of a cart and smack a ball into the woods, or a pond, or a field of poison ivy a minimum of 18 times in the hot sun

The subject makes no sense to me

Without dialog HOW can there be discussion face to face   Its a great way to avoid he said she said and the kind of inane banter which fuels this and many other threads

FOR the record I like the HWJ intro but not as much as the one that used to be on WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS   ( the agony of de feet)

Never met HWJ but if Highbinder says he has shared time with the man thats good enough for me
not to want to damn him over a sound bite, even one as dumb as the one that started this thread

So he tried to save his "job" by issuing a more contrite apology (after his first explanation was not so well received) and now it was him who decided to end the relationship? Not buying it. Sounds like he caved and is trying to save face with his fan base.

Why should he appologize. Bush II was compaired to Hitler on many occasions. I am not saying what HWJ said is right but he has the right to say it (you know that pesky First Amendment thing).  If you don't want to buy his C/Ds or go to his shows because of what he said than that is your choice. Just like when the Dixie Chicks Dissed DW overseas. A lot af people didnt buy there stuff or go to thier concerts. That is everyones Choice. I personaly think that Celebrities shoud stay out of politics all together. Because whatever they say they will likly alienate half there fan base.....

Just went on to ESPN's website and sent them the following E-Mail:

QuoteSince you have so blatantly decided that Hank Williams Jr and apparantly ANYONE with an oppinion that you disagree with does not have First Amendment rights.

I will no longer watch anything on ESPN or ABC. additionally I will boycott any of your advertisers that remain associated with you following your outrageous decision.

I will also highly encourage all of my friends and associates to do the same.

I realize that it won't mean a hill of beans to them, but it sure felt good to hit send.

Maybe if enough others who felt the same way would send them a similar message it would get their atttention though.

so,  any one that pays for further education so they can make a beter life for themselves and their family should apologize for making money? are you kidding, thats what this country was founded on. the desire to keep some of what you earn instead of giving it to the government no matter what one it may be. if you would re-read my post you would see that i said i heard what he said, not read it... second it was not the millionaires that caused people to over pay for their houses or take out a mortgage for 125% of what the house is worth. how about living within your means. in other words if you cant afford it than dont try and cheat the system to get what you want. the banks didnt make you buy that house that was 200 thousand more than you can pay for.  it wasnt wall street that made people go into credit card debt and buy that new car that they couldnt afford either... how about we as a nation stop trying to blame business and take a little more responsability for our actions. in other words grow the F up and be accountable for your own actions.

Well, if he really feels that way then he should not apologize. To do so is to compromise his principals. It's best to just say nothing in the first place and avoid the whole thing altogether. Unfortunately for him he's stupid and couldn't help himself. Best to keep one's mouth shut and be thought a fool, yadda, yadda...

And I keep hearing this argument being brought up about the 1st Amendment. There's no 1st Amendment violation here. You are guaranteed the right to speak your mind provided you do not act irresponsibly (i.e: yelling fire in a crowded theater) but you are not guaranteed a public broadcast forum to do so. ESPN is a private corporation and they can hire and fire whomsoever they please to represent them. It turns out that having an ignorant redneck introduce MNF to the world is not in their interest so they s**t-canned him. HWJ is now free to go yell on the capitol steps until he's blue in the face. Odds are he'll have no shortage of broadcast forums either way. I'm sure the Tea Party will just love to have him as a keynote speaker.

I also don't see how the fact that Bush II was compared to Hitler makes this excusable. It's flat out WRONG to compare either man to Hitler. It was wrong then and it's wrong now.

Slightly off-topic here but it's something else about all of this that I'd like to point out; I watch sports in large part to ESCAPE the day to day real-life bullshit of party politics, race, class etc. I don't want HWJ or Rush Limbaugh, or Shannon Sharpe or Tom Jackson or anyone else interjecting their opinions about America and "social concerns" into my Sunday of turning off my brain for a couple of hours. The arena of sportsmanlike competition is a place where I get to watch people put all that crap aside and work for a common goal regardless of skin color. At least HWJ made his remarks on a political program. Rush Limbaugh decided to unhinge his fat mouth and push his agenda on my football Sunday. For that he was fired and rightfully so.
