the center O-ring

Cleaner Man:
this is my third question regarding the spline maintenance on my '97 Standard.  When i disassembled the hub, the thin, "center" O-ring was quite thin (compared to the new one), and was broken.  It was obviously destroyed.  I am pretty sure that I did not roll it when doing spline maintenance 6,000 miles ago.  I'm wondering if even the slightest play in the wheel dampers could cause enough movement to destroy this O-ring?
Again- thanks for the great help and comments.

Matt sells the O-Ring kits he's a VRCC vendor so you can trust him .I change mine everytime the wheel comes off its cheap " Peace Of Mind " .

Dag:
I do also change mine everytime the wheel comes off, but I have never seen any worn out or destroyed.

Cleaner Man:
My question really is whether the wheel dampers, if even a smidgen loose could cause some travel, or movement that in turn would mess up that O-ring?

R J:
Very doubtful on the damper movement taking out an 'O' ring.

Most of the destroyed one I have seen was due to roll at the last installation..........

That little stock one is very fragile.........
