Tilting winshield back

  Trying to tilt my clearview windshield  back, but the metal bracket (honda line) hits the gauges when tilted back only a small amount , which is not as much as I need. I need to lean it back further.  Letting it pivot on the top two bolt mounts.  Wanting to fab some extensions about 1" long to use on bottom bolt mounts but cant get it to move far enough before it contacts the gauges. Just wanting suggestions from those who have done this mod.  Thanks.

Can't help you with the Clearview.. That problem doesn't happen with the Honda unit,, it'll pull right out an inch or more at the bottom..

If it was me, and I had run into this when I developed this mod 15 years ago, I would investigate moving the top mount points up a little.  Easy when you work with metal and can fab parts as needed - but there may be a way to do this without welding equip.  Drilling new holes and/or bending the top brackets.  

If I was to address your problem without welding, (see pic) I would cut off the top of the angle bracket at the red line, and drill a hole at the green circle on the same bracket, and then use a nut on the inside to move the mount point up 5/8" or so.  If you can weld, butt-weld a piece of steel on the bottom edge of the windshield bracket then drill it to move the bracket up as much as needed. Of course the metal plate is held 1/8" away from the standing part, with welder's magnets, and weld both sides, and grind off the excess weld. This can be MIG or TIG welded.  If you use SS plate and SS weld, you can shine it up so as not to need plating, and the chrome that discolors will be hidden behind the fender washer.  Leave the previous holes in the shield bracket and you have a reversible mod.

As for the tach speedo problem, get some velcro (soft side) and stick it onto the backside of the shield frame where it hits the pods. Mine's been that way for 10 years with no problem.
