Skinhead

Actually, that is and should be the case on a 4 lane highway (2 lanes of travel in each direction), if there are more than 2 lanes traveling in the same direction, the left lanes are for the faster and thru traffic and right are for the slower traffic,  You should still not travel in the left lane, but I don't think you can be cited for traveling in the left (passing only) lane like you can on a 4 lane.  I drive 40 miles each way to work on one @ 10 over (80 in a 70) and I try to stay out of the left lane, or at least move over and let the speed demons by.

It really ticks me off when some asshat is running 70 or less in the left most lane.  Could be different in other states.

Asshat and jackass.  Two of the best descriptive words ever invented.
I can't help about the shape I'm in

But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

SECTION 56-5-1810. Drive on the right side of roadways; exceptions.

(a) Upon all roadways of sufficient width a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half of the roadway except as follows:

1. When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing such movement.

2. When an obstruction exists making it necessary to drive to the left of the center of the highway. Any person so doing shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles traveling in the proper direction upon the unobstructed portion of the highway within such distance so as not to constitute an immediate hazard.

3. Upon a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic under the rules applicable thereon.

4. Upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic.

(b) Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

(c) Upon any roadway having four or more lanes for moving traffic and providing for two-way movement of traffic, no vehicle shall be driven to the left of the center line of the roadway, except when authorized by official traffic-control devices designating certain lanes to the left side of the center of the roadway for use by traffic not otherwise permitted to use such lanes, or except as permitted under item 2 of subsection (a). This subsection shall not be construed as prohibiting the crossing of the center line in making a left turn into or from an alley, private road or driveway.

Actually, the left lane is for passing slower traffic and for turning left....ONLY.  The right lane is for driving.  The left lane IS NOT for driving, cruising, enjoying the scenery or for any other purpose other than passing slower traffic or making left hand turns.

Someone should tell that to MI drivers that come thru the Hoosier State.  (kidding guys!)

I'm with Gavin. You should have popped a cap in his bad finger and then honked the horn until he moved that P.O.S. O-stickered car.

Peace out,

I have been there and done that.  sounds like you did ok and the right thing getting to him before he got to you and your family  :cooldude:

Alien

You weren't protecting your family, you were endangering them.  Quite honestly, you didn't react the way you did because you felt threatened, you reacted that way because you were pissed.

If you REALLY felt that this man was a threat, you would have gotten your family away from him as soon as possible rather than escalate the situation.

What if he had a gun, fired and a stray bullet hit someone in your car?  What if the police came?  You want your family watching you get cuffed?  Or watching you get your ass handed to you?  Or watch you getting killed?

The days of an old fashioned fistfight are long over.  People are crazy these days.  Fight only if there is NO other option.   In my mind risking your safety/life and that of your family to prove who wears the biggest jockstrap just isn't worth it.

And if you would have drawn your firearm you would have gone to jail. You started the encounter and escalated it. You had no right of self defense.

I don't see it that way.................

Was at our local walmart tonight. As we were leaving the parking lot my wife said watch that car. He came speedind down one of the aisles toward the exit. I was in the right of way lane and he pulls out in front of me. Having my pregnant wife and my 2 year old in the car with me I got close to him but let him go. As soon as he pulled out I honked at him, he slammed on his brakes got out and flipped me off.

The driver slammed on his brakes and exited the car in an aggressive manner, to me HE is the one that initiated the actual confrontation.

By your logic, simply blowing the horn at someone who pulls out in front of you is initiating a confrontation.

I make it a point to blow the horn at everyone who pulls out in front of me if it causes me to have to brake hard to prevent hitting them.

I see it as an attempt to make sure that they realize that they just did something bone headed.

The intent is not to instigate a fight, rather it is to "educate" them in the hope that they might think twice before they pull out the next time.

It's rare, but if someone does react by flipping me off or some other assinine behavior then I just say to myself, "You can't fix STUPID".

couldn't get over in right lane unless I wanted to slow down and piss him off even more and put my right turn signal on hoping someone would let me in on the interstate.  Normally if room allows, I would easily get over for most people no problems but I am not going to endanger me and my family just to please an A-hole crazy behind me who thinks they own the road and acts like a psycho.

I am not familiar here in WI  as far as I know both lanes on an interstate can be used to drive just is common sense to get over if safe into the right lane.  If bumper to bumper and not safe, then whomever behind me in the left lane, since I am already going 5-10 mph over the posted speed limit, can kiss my _ss.

Exactly.   Gotta look out for #1 since no one else will.  :cooldude:

LIke I said,  no where to go over to the right and traffic was ahead of me in the left lane which I was comfortably allowing a 3-4 second following distance, where did the idiot behind me weaving back and forth in the left lane beeping the horn/flipping me off and acting psycho expect to go?   :uglystupid2:

Jabba

ah... new information.  Traffic in front of you... You are now off the hook as far as I am concerned.  Not that I matter to anyone anywhere outside my tiny sphere of influence.
