Thanks to the Valk volunteers at the ride today.   I hope you had as good a time as the kids did.  I noticed we had several Valk riders at the ride who had not been on previous rides, but who are on our email list.  If you're one of them, welcome, and I hope you also enjoyed the Ride For Kids today.  Nice having those sixes out in front of the pack, where they belong.

It was very nice meeting Erica and Mike from McKinney and Kevin from Flower Mound.  Monthly meetings will be hard for Erica because she's a teacher in Frisco (TX), but hopefully Mike and Kevin can make to some meetings and everyone can go for a ride soon.

I am sorry I did not volunteer nor ride this year in the RFK.  I have been fighting bronchitis since the 27th when I got really sick.  Didn't go to work all week and tried to get to Joe's on Thursday but just wasn't able.  Same thing Saturday afternoon.  I set the alarm early Sunday so that I could come up and work after seeing the message we were a little short on volunteers (was going to drive the cage) but too much coughing to do anyone any good.  So, I missed my first RFK in 5 years.  I hope our fund raising was successful and some of the people who got brochures from me actually showed up.  My donations were already in so I am comforted in the knowledge that the kids did get the funds to continue research.

Thanks to all that volunteered and rode.  I'll be there again next year.

Here's the summary recap

Nine-year-old Dallas ride star Summer (left) and her twin sister, Sydney, get ready to roll.

DFW riders raise $135,000

The sixth annual Dallas/Fort Worth Ride for Kids® continues raised $135,000, an 18 percent increase over last year's announced total.

A sunny morning greeted the crowd of 500 motorcyclists and supporters gathered at Grapevine Mills Mall. The riders and their police escort left the metropolitan area for the countryside, enjoying rural scenery before returning for the powerful Celebration of Life program.

Seven Ride for Kids® stars, including 2-year-old Josephine and Cassie, 5, were on stage to talk about their lives. Said Carson, 16, "I can't imagine all of you doing this. Thank you for helping kids with brain tumors."

The program also honored the memory of young Trinity Bright, who died last year at age 7 before she could attend a Ride for Kids® event. Her parents, Angel and John, and their friend Jamie Mancini, held a memorial walk/run to raise funds for the PBTF. They donated more than $15,000 at the ride.

The top club/chapter was HRCA Maxim Honda of Allen, Texas, with $30,090 in donations. Maxim Honda customers donated a total of $39,043 to give it the top motorcycle business spot. Jasmine Khan of Waco won the grand prize Honda motorcycle.

A heartfelt thanks went to the local Ride for Kids® task force and event volunteers, led by Jeff Latimer, Fetch Daniel, and Shane and Pam Sutton.

What SideCar so modestly excluded from his last post is that he and Mrs. SideCar were the top individual contributors.  Great Job!

I ran into Frank Jenson today at lunch, while I was showing off my new acquisition.  Got the ride report firsthand.  Sounds like a success.
