Good to know.  How would I find out for sure?
I dunno, Start a new thread in the Technical Board and ask?  I think Smokin Joe had B-bags on one of his, for a while.    Hoser   cooldude

I have a couple of questions for you guys.  Premium or regular gas?  It's probably a good idea for me to get a Honda Valkyrie Service Manual.  Where is the best place to get one?  Do one of you have it scanned to PDF maybe?

On my Road King I cruised at 2800-3300 rpm range, on my V-Rod I cruised in the 4000-5000 rpm range.  What rpms do you guys cruise at on the Valkyrie?

Regular.  Premium is a waste of $$.

Run a bottle of your fav carb/injection cleaner through a tank once or twice a year.  Some use Seafoam on regular basis, but I've had better luck using Techron (usually once a year).

There are two primary service manuals.  The Honda manual, and the Clymers manual.  I refer to both for reference when needing to do something........plus the Clymers has COLOR coded wiring diagrams (very handy).  The Honda manual's diagrams are in black and white.

You can find them new or used on ebay, or here......

http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=232&str=0&mdl=1539&mdy=1997

http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=121225&str=0&mdl=1539&mdy=1997

However, you can also download the Honda manual for free from Dag's site.......

http://www.valkyrienorway.com/download.html

Dag's site is vaulable resource.  Bookmark it.

Another invaulable resource is Carl Kulow's Valkyrie Maintenance Guide

http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/valkmaintenanceguide.html

The old Rattlebars site has tons of vaulable info on it also (open the drop-down menu on the left of the page).....

http://www.rattlebars.com/mtz/valkyrie.html

And don't forget to check out all of the info in our own ShopTalk (link is always at the top of the page)....

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/

That should keep you busy for awhile.   Wink

Without question the bike only needs regular to run, and higher octane does not make it run any better and is wasted money (though some ignition and timing wheel mods have required higher octane to avoid knock).

But for those of us that have to store the bike over winter (or most of it), and the only gas we can get has 10% ethanol pollution in it, haven't some here mentioned filling with premium because it is cleaner gas and resists the water accumulation of ethanol better than regular gas?    (I do use Startron enzyme and marine stabil in winter)

(this is a storage question, not a running question)

Probably more Road King-ish.

On my Tourer when I had it if cruising around 60-65 RPM's would hover around 2500, but when hitting an interstate and going on up to 70-75 it would be 3000'ish.

I rode about 140 miles today, mainly cruisin' on backroads. Every
time I looked at my tach it was between 2000-2500. Sometimes,
on a tree-lined two lane backroad, I like to cruise along at 1500
or even less! Makes the Valkyrie growl like a diesel grizzly bear!!!
Try it!! There's really no bad rpm range on the Valk.

Take 'er down to about 20 mph leaving it in high gear. Crack the throttle back & feel it smoothly pull you back up to speed.  cooldude
Try that with a two-banger!  Grin Grin

$6900 is  not out of line believe it or not. 18 k miles is extremely low, the corbin beetle bags are 1800 new. Plus the 97 has the most power of all the standard valkyries,  the valkyrie isnt made anymore grab it.  If you can discount it do it.  But if its extremely nice and he wont budge off the 6900 and you can afford it buy it. just my opinion.
what is different AFTER 97 & BEFORE 97 that makes it the most powerful? I had no idea one year model was different from the rest....What did they do to derate it?

I think the only differences were carbs and wheel bearings....not that the wheel bearings
would make it any faster!! I've never ridden a 97, but I've been told there's not a MAJOR
difference in performance. It would show up on a dyno but not always on the street. I
think my 03 was faster than my 98....smoother too. Depends on a lot of variables. YMMV.

Well, with all that talk about Fast Blacks, I assumed they used slicker paint.  Wink

cruising speed for me 65 mph on speedo (probably 62 mph in reality) is just around 2800-2900 rpms.  If I see 70 mph on speedo, is right at 3000 rpms.   I think the blue/silver and red/black combo is cooler and not as many around as fast black, but can't complain about fast black once it is cleaned up, also looks very sharp, just not so much when dirty.  Black and chrome offset each other and complement each other very nicely IMO.

My 03 was fast black (naturally). It DID look good clean, but if I
cleaned it and went for a ride it was dirty before I got to the end
of my driveway. Dirt shows up real good on black paint!!!!!

Although I'd be hesitant to try that, I think mine would stall and not be very happy.

Startron enzyme!! & "regular" 87 octane (10% corn oil)..... "super" sets in the tanks longer because not many buy it ($$$), & has more time to draw more moisture.
