Check the O-rings like Dave said.  And you can use what you want to do the rpm change test that he suggested, but take a look at this article.  I just looked it up again to be sure I remembered the situation correctly.  If you burn brake cleaner it causes a very poisonous gas.  And Dave I am not attempting to be negative about your post.  Just be careful out there we never know where danger lies.  I was a volunteer fireman/Fire Chief for quite a few years.  When we started we didn't have breathing equipment.  But they were using more and more chemicals in furniture and glue etc.  We eventually got some.

I did not know this but is great to KNOW.

But when I'm checking out a runnig car/bike/aircraft/anything I almost alway had it outside or very very well vented.  I had a friend losted a long time ago from a flash fire when he was working on a farm in a barn. If you are spraying on intake the only burning should be in the bikes eng as the intake is a vacumm sucking it into it. That is why you are looking for a RPM change.

billyboy:
Thanks guys for the info. I did the spray test thingy at all points of vaccum with the tank on.
I pulled the tank today and the vac line on the petcock just kinda dropped off when I lifted the tank and it was a bit hard. So I think I found the problem. Will take a test ride in the a.m. just to see.
Thanks again.   :cooldude: Nice to know we have some great folks here who are more than
willing to help. Peace out.   :D

Billy,

If you change the intake O rings clean off the brown stuff.  That way when a leak starts you get an indication of what is happening.

I also have a popping at Decel that just started a few months ago.  I ordered the intake O rings from redeye and Friday got time to install them and a new air cleaner.  The vacuum plugs and fuel shutoff vacuum lines were also replaced.  Previous to this (1 month) the exhaust seals were replaced.  My cobra six pipes have just been ceramic coated so new seals go with the newly coated pipes.  The popping is still there.  I torque the exhaust nuts to spec.  The smog crap has been removed for years.  My thoughts now are the flanges for the exhaust are sticking on the studs for the exhaust.  So I hit the correct torque, but the seal is not completed.  Excessive work travel has slowed my working on the bike for now.  Thought this might help you.  Since these are one to one pipes I can find the exhaust leak(s) [should they be leaking] by covering the pipes one at a time.

So
 desmog for years no popping
cobra six pipes for more than a year no popping
 Started popping
cobras ceramic coated cause they blued
 new exhaust seals
 Still popping
new intake O ring, air filter, vacuum lines, intake boots checked and found tight
 Still popping

Will be checking for leaks and if it still pops may put on the original pipes for the winter rides.

Curious, where in upstate NY?

Gil

Hey Gil; Pulled the tank and the vac line just fell off the pitcock.  >:(  Changed the vac line
