I would bet my life that you've been called worse by the best this world has to offer. I'm sure you're beaming with pride over it too.

You make the comment because his father is from Kenya and is dark-skinned.  As far as our President showing respect and appreciation for America, you can't really find a speech he's made where he doesn't do so.  He is the epitome of the American dream.

Obviously the public schools in New York are real good at teaching reading or reading comprehension..
Byt, I guess I'll have to state it for you again,
"as soon as that son of a bitch starts showing as much respect and appreciation of his AMERICAN heritage as he does that of his father (the one that for all intensive purposes abandon him and his mother early on and had very little contact with him there after), then I will I'll consider not using it. "

as far as being the epitome of the American Dream...... right.....
epitome of American Marketing, there is nothing about the man that has not be exposed as a lie and a fraud from his books, to his poor up bring out of poverty....

Anything political that gets posted on here turns into angry rants. People see the country failing and it upsets them. Then there are some that do not see it and thinks it's great. So anytime something political ( truthful or not) it will turn into something angry.

Well, aren't both sides constantly bitching that this country is FUBAR and not what the founding fathers had envisioned? Seems they just often have different ideas of what that vision was but regardless, reps from either side could make the statement that this country needs to fundamentally changed (not from what it's supposed to be but from what it IS) without meaning that they want to rewrite the Constitution (which is something that the extreme of either side also wants to do).

so what do you think he meant by 'fundamentally change'?

it seems your side of the aisle wants to move further away from the founding fathers view of this nation.

There you go again with that "your side of the aisle" crap. For one thing, I'm at best a blue-dog but if you've been paying any attention to politics as of late you'd know that the party doesn't even recognize us. I share many viewpoints with the Republican party and even embrace some libertarian concepts. But I am a man without a party. My voting philosophy is that it is no longer about electing a good man or even the best man for the job. It is about voting for the despot who's self interest aligns most closely with your own.

But to your question about "fundamental change"; I think most people regardless of party, would agree that the military industrial complex is far too powerful. In fact, it's probably the single most powerful entity in the country. Well, changing that power structure wouldbe a fundamental change in the operation of America.

I'm not saying that's what Obama meant. My point is that it doesn't have to mean re-writing the Constitution. America has a lot of fundamental problems right now that need addressing. Damn, if there's one thing I would think we could all agree on it's THAT even if we can't agree on what they are or how to fix them..

still you voted for obama twice and have no buyers remorse.  that's why I say 'your party'
what view points (other than the second amendment) do you share with repubs?
as for problems we have in america I can't see any that have been made better. poor employment the ACA is partially responcible for that, a pitiful GDP, expansion of the 'safety net' because of less people being able to call themselves middle class. 4 million more people living under poverty levels. 17 trillion dollars in debt. these are just some of the domestic issues, I'm not even going to touch on foreign relations.

Buyer's remorse means that I wish I could get a do-over and vote for the other option. I do not feel that way. McCain has gone off the rails and Romney is Romney. I picked the best of a bad lot. That doesn't mean I'm happy about THAT fact.

what view points (other than the second amendment) do you share with repubs?

military spending (lots of it), climate change (I'm not sold that it's man-made or even abnormal), work programs for welfare recipients... there are others.

As far as my libertarian views, I believe in drug legalization, the legitimization of gay marriage, severely limiting involvment in foreign affairs and focusing on a defensive military rather than power projection...

All fair. But the solutions offered by the "your side" is to lower (and even eliminate) taxes on corporations, as though this will make these issues magically disappear. But it won't. In the immortal words of Dave Mustaine; "If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line. But it'd better work this time". Offer me ideas and action. Don't just offer complaint. Though I have my own misgivings about the ACA, at least someone had the balls to try something. Yeah, I'll give Obama credit for that just as I'll offer criticism when he's wrong. Feel free to call me a traiter or whatever.

Please do take this with the kindness with which it's intended.

On both sides we move ourselves into unreasonable positions when we allow ourselves to believe we are the only true ones who care and that people who disagree with us obviously don't care.  Perhaps before making such a blanket assumptive statement we should check the statistics on from where contributions to charitable purposes are coming.  I think we might be surprised.

A lot of us on both sides truly care but we do have very different perspectives.

Willow, I'm not talking about the average person when I say that. The average person is not the seller but rather, the buyer. They just happen to repeat a lot of the crap because they heard it from Mark Levin or Glenn Beck or Alex Jones and gosh-darnit someone gave those people mediums so it must be true!

Yeah but people keep blaming that on the ACA but there are a lot of reasons for that. It was quite likely that it was going to happen that way anyway as there were already incentives for hiring part-timers instead of full-timers.

lower taxes have spawned economic growth, I can illustrate several examples. it has worked every time, can you provide an example where it hasn't?

That wasn't the point I was making. The point was that simply lowering taxes is not the answer and that's all Republicans seem to be interested in doing. Noone should be taxed into oblivion. Not private citizens OR corporations. However, when times call for it the burden should be fairly distributed.
