How about option 2? Use your cell phone to call the police as soon as they started following and you don't have to draw on anyone at the end, putting yourself and your girlfriend in a compromised situation? What if the redneck boys had been carrying as well?

I'm all for rights to carry to protect yourselves and property but you have to be smarter than that.


OK, guess you are ready to fend for yourself for the next hour it takes for the law to get there.  Maybe if you beg and plead they probably will apologize and go their way, seeing the error to their ways, and probably wont do it again.  In the mean time you and your girlfriend can enjoy that warm and fuzzy feeling from teaching those poor misunderstood old boys how they should act in society.  Why you might even become friends and down the road enjoy a beer together.

I'm about to pull the trigger and get a .22 caliber handgun not necessarily for protection as much as plinking around.  I hear more and more horror stories locally of car jackings at gas stations and such.  Weirdo's are everywhere nowadays and right in our backyards.    Just a few miles from me on the other side of the hwy. was where a year to two ago a stranger killed and buried an older rural couple in their own backyards over money.  So, don't think it can't happen to you.  Even my neighbor one block over saw a burgler around midnight trying to cut their patio screen door trying to get in and he ran off after him with gun in tote a few years ago as well.  This is in a small 1200 popl. community in the rural midwest where most locals still leave their doors unlocked when they leave home.

I would never pull a gun on someone or shoot unless provoked first.  If they didn't show a handgun I would tell them to bring it and let the chips fall where they may.  If they think they are getting my 34K truck without a fight they thought wrong regardless of how many they have with them.

Concealed carry is becoming more commonplace and in certain circumstances such as the movie theatre shootings,  a close round up close could save dozens of lives.

Yes several times when I 1st went on the force.

I was in a very rough neighborhood.

In a on foot chase, I always tried to lay a slug down right beside their foot somewhere as a warning shot.    It usually stopped them dead in their tracks.

One guy told the jailer, I sure don't want him shootin at me no more.

Jailer asked why, he said he is a pretty good shot.  On the dead run and place a slug about a foot from my shoe, that tells me he knows where he is shooting.   I stopped running pronto.

I've used fire-arms in other countries, not here. Except for one incident, I've mentioned it before. I didn't have to pull the trigger, but, it did ruin one really nice fellas gold dental work.

Had I been home during our 2 burglaries I think I would have used one.

Jeez with all this guntalk I might hafta get ONE gun to replace all those guns that sunk in the boat mishap in the middle of Lake Michigan.  I'm thinkin I should get a lefty-approved one, say a double-barrel shotgun.  I'm thinkin I can even fire TWO BLASTS in the air off the balcony, gunfire out here on the ranch isn't illegal - unlike at Shotgun Joe's place.

Where I grew up (VA, AK, and AL), the rednecks have guns too.  It would have been more prudent to avoid further instigating trouble and instead head to a police station or to meet a police officer somewhere in public.

I am for guns, I believe in our right to bear arms... but if I am ever forced to draw a weapon, I intend to shoot.  I don't want my loved ones in that situation if it can be avoided. 

I think the scenario in the video could have and should have been avoided.

I really think the video may be a hoax. I hope.
Smart move would of been to just go away or drive to the police station. They wouldn't of stopped too.
If you point it you better be willing to pull the trigger.

Good timing for this question.

I attended Crazyhorse's Veterans Day Ride and took the scenic route home to FL. I got home Mon PM after riding all day.

My dog and I walk about a mile every night and Mon night he didn't care that I was tired from riding a total of five days, we walked. It's usually dark when Paco and I walk so I carry a flashlight, my phone and I carry a Sig 9mm. We live in a quiet neighborhood and there is never any trouble but to carry those items doesn't take any effort and I feel like it's good insurance.

We were across the street from a heavily wooded area, very little light from porch lights down the street and I saw a large animal standing at the tree line across the street from us. My first thought was that it's a deer, but a deer wouldn't be there with Paco and I so close. I put the flashlight on it but couldn't tell what it was from the angle I had. It was all black and real large, a bear crossed my mind but this animal wasn't as husky as a bear. It had it's head real low staring at us. It began walking slowly toward us and I got a good look at it's head. It was a Great Dane

I talked to it like you do with a dog you want to get along with but it didn't respond as I'd hoped. My dog is 35 lbs (about Beagle size) and the Great Dane walked up and got my dog around the ribs and attempted to pick him up. My first reaction was to kick the GD in the head, I did and the GD dropped Paco. My dog was laying on the street and the GD went for him again, I laid down in the street to cover my dog. The GD was not at all aggressive toward me but he wanted my dog real bad.

I'm laying in the street with the GD pacing around me trying to get to my dog. I called my wife to drive to us and to try to get the passenger door close to me. She did good! I tossed Paco into the car and we took off.

During that whole ordeal I feel like I was able to think clearer because I knew that no matter how bad it got, I had the trump card should I choose to use it. Honestly, it was getting to be about time to use that trump card but I'm glad it ended like it did. Paco is fine, he was wet from slobber, no broken skin or bones.
