It seems to me, the formula would be is to quit giving lip service. Quit hiding behind other peoples quotes and put your brain in gear, do by example.

My brain is in gear. I'm not the one failing to grasp the difference between excuses and explanation. At no time did I ever try to excuse anyone's actions.

That's a problematic mindset among modern conservatives that treat book-learning and attempts to dissect events with suspicion. A lot of modern conservatives think that you can solve complex issues with a sword across the knot. Sometimes you can, but that is typically an ineffective long-term stratagem.

No, it was meant as an insult (through mockery and absurdity) to ignorant people. For everyone else with a sense of humor regarding what ignorant people fear it was a joke. You can have a contrary opinion. I'm less concerned with the opinion than I am with the rationale BEHIND the opinion.

Regardless, it was a throwaway line and really not something that should be the focal point.
