As others have mentioned, if you want a big trike, best go with Goldwing, for the reverse, and maybe the do-dads that come with it.

Sorry to hear about the spider.  I had a VTX 1300 triked before I went back to 2 wheels on my Valk.  I was just thinking that if I ever have to go back to 3 wheels, I'd take a good hard look at the Spyder.  If that day comes, maybe the kinks will have been worked out.

If I ever wanted a Valk trike, I don't think I could cut mine up.  I'd sell her and buy one already triked.

Sorry sir, you do not cut the bike up.

Everything that is not needed to make it into a Trike is unbolted.

If ya wanted to make it back into a 2 wheeler you can do so.

The rear wiring is the only thing that gets cut up.

There is one located up here in the Tri-cities, Wa. I've only seen the pics from their first ad but the bike looks gorgeous. The store owner used to have a Valk of his own, really nice guy and the bike has been for sale for a few months now, so a deal could most likely be worked out.

Actually..Flamingobabe pushes me through the twisties on her spyder..  I'm dragging hard body parts and about to lift the rear wheel... and she is on the cb asking me why I'm slowing down....  That is not the issue we are having with the spyder....

I agree BRP may have done some things wrong with the spyder, most notably the inclusion of vehicle stability control and no off switch on that. It does appear BRP has some problems with customer service from what I have read. The O2 sensor blowout is a rare one and obviously the result of over-tightening and stripping out the treads. I have seen damage due to over-tightening the drive belt also but that is a common dealer mistake. Poor tire life due to improper understanding of tire pressure and simple toe in adjustments are also on the list.
These are all problems that require minimal effort to correct but it appears BRP is somewhat slow to respond and dealers in general seem inept regarding correct setup and maintenance.

But as stated above a non-leaning trike will out corner a conventional tour or cruiser. Trikes are incredibly stable and do not tip easily. RTs hold the advantage of light predictable steering and superior front suspension.
The new 2015 Spyder units use a much superior 3 cylinder engine which was also one of the early faults with the sub 1000cc V-twin build.
I certainly do not wish to dump excessively on BRP as I feel the introduction of a new vehicle type by them was a great and welcome move in the motorsports industry. Thanks to BRP we now have more choices and I feel that to be a good thing.
One thing missing in the motorcycle industry over the last decades of HD clone era has been variety and I think with the introduction of the Spyder, SlingShot, Elio etc we now once again have choices.

I own a Valkyrie not only due to it being a great machine but it's unlike all the ho hum millions and I like that.

Charlene--just my .02 worth.  I have had both a Valk & a Wing Trike.  '99 I/S & '95 GL1500 SE.  Both solid axle conversions.  The Valk is far & away the better from a "wow" perspective.  Also better in the performance category.  The Wing is more comfortable.  Has reverse.  Has cruise.  Has much better wind/rain protection.  Has a better stock seat for long distance riding.  (I know you do a lot of that)  Luggage capacity is about equal with the I/S.  From a sheer riding/performance standpoint, I still prefer the Valk.  It just was a lot more fun to ride.  If I was riding solo, I would still have it.  But from a comfort perspective, Pam & I both prefer the Wing.   Long days touring day after day are more enjoyable.  Hope this is of some use to you.  Thanks again to you & Mark for your hospitality.  Stan
