The H/d guys and gals I ride with down when they see for the first time it's a car tire on my Phatt Ghurl the usual first question is-what size is the tire?? And when I tell them it's a 205-65-16 THAT'S WHEN they appreciate the size of my machine. And NO I say-you may NOT ride my Gal as I'm kinda funny likea dat. BUT I also let them know car tires on a motorcycle aren't fer everyone. RIDE SAFE.

Tropic and John, on the hydroedge dissing? I am running that tire in the 65 size and absolutely love it! Now when I first mounted it I was running high 30's to mid 40's psi and low speed bumps were the bitch! I then tried low to mid 20's and now love the comfortable non jerky ride at any speed I have put over 30k on it and still have  5/32's of good tread left. I think a lot of CT problems could be addressed with lower pressure. As it allows the sidewalls and tread to flex more. Just my experience.

the motor cycle tire on the back of a harley is a 180/65-16...aint this the same size as the valkyrie stock m/c tire?.. i will have to check and see..
ok i looked it up a valk is 180/70-16 so yep it beats a harley by about a 16th of an inch taller..

the front of the harley is 130/80-17 the valk is 150/80-17 the valk is one inch wider..

the rear tires are the exact same width.. so whats the big deal about the valks tires being wider than the harleys? which in essence isnt true..

Then two VRCC members (and typically the same two) throw in their negative two cents worth (on a post designated for advocates of CT's). And the debate rages once more here on our own lovely site!

I inherited my Valk from my father with a CT already on it, and rode many, many miles not even knowing there was so much controversy.

To this I say, "Let bygones be bygones". Stop banging our heads against the walls.

For those Nay-Sayers, show some forum etiquette and don't hijack threads with off topic remarks.

I'll just say this, w/o reading all the replies.  It matters WHICH CT you pick.  I had a bad experience with a GYTT and hated it.  Gave it a pretty good try, nearly a couple thousand miles on many different types of roads, on a road trip, and varied the pressure from 18 to 40 lbs.  Took it back off and sold it.

Some time later Rude Dog said he had good luck with a Yoko CT with rounded corners.  So I tried it.  Night and day difference.  After proving to myself I could appreciate the bennies w/o the drawbacks, I wore that tire out fast - it was a racing tire - and went with another Yoko with more and harder rubber.  Still using that one.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I have seen some Harley tires that appeared much narrower. Are you comparing Ultra Classics, Road Kings, Fat Boys, some other model...or all of the above?

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I have seen some Harley tires that appeared much narrower. Are you comparing Ultra Classics, Road Kings, Fat Boys, some other model...or all of the above?

apples to apples,, valk tourer vs a road king,, interstate vs. an ultra classic..

Jim, After much experimenting with pressure I too found that 28 psi minimized the ill low speed handling on the HydroEdge. Still too much for me.
I guess having two other Valks in the garage with Avons on the rear shaded me a bit. I can remember riding the '99 with the CT for a week or so then hopping on my '97 Avon equipped Valk. Came to the first RH turn at the end of my street & I nearly threw the bike to the ground.  Muscle memory from the Michelin. 
Anyhow, Kim does occasionally ride one of my Valks & I wanted the same handling characteristics on all three bikes. I do believe in & appreciate all the positives of a CT on a Valk but there are some car tires that make a TREMENDOUS difference in low speed handling from a bike tire. Some riders care some don't.
