Blue Ridge Parkway info needed

I am thinking of riding the BRP in July.  Planning on about a weeks ride on the bike from northern Ohio. What I need help with is suggestions for mom and pop hotels. I prefer smaller places where I can park outside my room door. I'd like to just go day by day in whatever direction I feel that day.

Can anyone suggest places, motel, eateries?

Any info is appreciated.
