The back of my tee shirt from Iron Mountain Road, US-16A, says it all:

17 miles
314 curves
14 switchbacks
3 pigtails
3 tunnels
4 presidents
2 splits

www.ironmountainroad.com

I really hope to make it, since this maybe the closest it comes to me. I've not followed the InZane posts, since I had no chance to make one.

I also hope there will be some posts about rides to make like the above. Like a google map route so others have an idea of what to do and where to ride, since I'm unfamiliar with the area.

I was going to try to go to Stugis next year to meet up with Ultimate Seat, and buy a seat for my GW. But with InZane coming to almost the same place, I would rather check out the Valkyries than all the Harleys.

Was going to ride onto Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and back home through Yellow Stone. Other thoughts where Custer's and Deadwood.

Already getting grief from my wife about taking a week trip without her. Told her to come along. Then the next weekend is the annual VRCC-BC and PNW Valhalla rally at Soap Lake WA, which I usually try to take 5 days to do.
There will be ride maps provided in your Inzane registration packet.  :cooldude:
If you're lucky enough to ride a Valkyrie, you're lucky enough.

My assumption is, she took you for better or worse.    She needs to come along to see you at your best and worst.   ;)

I really do hope to meet you there.    I've also got some challenges to getting there but, they aren't based on the spouse, more on finances and time but, I'm working on it.

The nicest thing about this, is we have plenty of warning! If they usually post the InZane notice in January, I now have an extra 6 months to plan, now knowing that it is doable. Between saving a little extra money, holiday time from work, and who I need to "fight" it out with to get the time off I want. Along with the time I need to see some country roads.

I can't tell you how much I agree with this post.   But, not to dwell on that, I'm doing my best to be there.    To be honest, had the announcement have been made later as has been the case, I (most likely) would not have even considered coming.    The additional travel (vacation) time needed would have already been allocated to something else.    At least this way, I get to decide what I really want to do.   Inzane is high on the list.

Start thinking about going out west. You can get a "Senior Pass" at any National park or Forest office for $10. it is good for your life .This Pass will give you unlimited entrance to any National Park (no fee's) and some discount's on camping and other activities. You need to be 62 or older. Its a good deal use it once and it paid for itself. I have used mine many times.

damn, I guess the west end of the country just gets to pound sand while everything is held back east, huh ?

oh well, we will just keep all our beautiful scenery here where it belongs. but I cannot help to notice that not too many folks take a trip back east on a bike, but everyone on this board seems to have ridden through Colorado, or across hwy 50 or up the west coast.

don't know what you have missed till you have ridden the million dollar hwy. or through northern colo./southern Wyoming. remember that true grit was filmed in the wilds of Idaho and Oregon. and a plus, we actually have motels and places to eat in this country. we even have paved roads and modern plumbing.

NC is no longer an alternate, the site is set for Spearfish, SD.  We've been to Colorado twice.
The geographic center of the country is Lebanon, KS... Spearfish is definitely west of that.
The population center of the country is Laclede County, MO... Spearfish is significantly west of that.
Oh, and Spearfish is pretty much due North of Denver, CO. (Didn't you say CO is west?)

It also snows periodically in Spearfish.    But don't hold that against the town, it is a great town to stop and visit in.     I've run all over that part of the country in my 55+ years of attending the Sturgis Rally, and visiting relation who live in Rapid City, SD..

I was introduced into motors there big time.     Dad was one of the racers in the 1st invitation of riders to come and race.    He did very good in the time trials, then blew an engine all over the track in the 1st heat, no extra motor with us, so we set and watched.   Dad did some wrenching on a couple of bikes.

Pappy knew dad from his motor racing in the midwest, on both Harleys and Indians.       Dad preferred Indians, but this race he brought his old Harley.

I never kept going back for the Rally, I went back for the Country side and the views of the places you can stop and admire, motor riding, especially in the Custer area.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO SPEARFISH, PLEASE DON'T KNOCK IT, it is a beautiful hunk of the Country.

I'm really looking forward to this & I haven't even picked up my Valk yet!

For those of you looking for some maps, check this out:

http://www.dreamridemotorcycleguide.com/PDF/BlackHillsRideGuide.pdf

That's a SMALL sample of the documentation that is available. For anybody coming in from the east, I would HIGHLY recommend taking the Badlands loop on your way to- or from- Spearfish.

I spent two summers working at Wall Drug (worth a stop, just for the ice cream) after High School and it was some of the most memorable times of my life. The roads and the people are fantastic, especially during the off-season (which, early June is not really the "on-season" yet). It's going to be a GREAT week of riding!

Now...I just have to ACTUALLY get the bike!!! :D

michaelyoung254

I know it's going to be in Spearfish, SD on June 8th through June 12th, but any idea when the hosting hotel will be announced? This will be our first InZane, and Vita and I can't wait.

Neither one of us have ever taken a cross country ride, and we're really looking forward to making this our first of many.

Thanks R J, I hadn't seen that part before, and I sure didn't want to wait too long after registration began, and then not be able to get a room.

Now all I have to do is to chew my fingernails until January  :crazy2:

RJ is correct... but, don't worry, the entire hotel is blocked until we open registration (which will probably be January, because we will get hammered by the IRS if we open sooner  :tickedoff: ).

Need to keep this up front. June is coming up fast. Also as new members pop in they need to know about this Inzane, it is going to be one of our BIGGEST yet!!! Side trips going out and going back home, this could be the trip of a lifetime!! As another guy from Alabama always says "GET-R-DONE"

So, you're finally going to make it?
Not sure. Id miss all my rally friends and rally time if i did. I gotta think hard on this one.....

Back to the top...Thats my issue....InZane and Sturgis both?? I gotta meet some of you crazy Valkyrie people!  Time off with 6 days travel...dunno what my boss will say? (not my wife, the guy that signs my checks) I wanna do both and ride out both times. Maybe I should just retire the first of the year and all of this wouldn't be an issue.    :2funny:

There is no way I can be gone for over 2 weeks to both. My Deputy Chief says go but that is with tongue in cheek...I've gotta make up my mind which way to go. I've never been to InZane but I have been to Sturgis but not on a bike. It's has been on my bucket list. Decisions - Decisions.   :-\

If I had to make a decision on the 2 sites.

I'd do InZane and then Sturgis some other time.

I've been to both and to me all Sturgis is now is shirt sales, almost bare and bare boobs, drunks trying to get a tittie squeeze.

InZane is nice and gentle and a hell of a lot more fun.

I got my flame suit on so have a go at it.

Next year is the 75th anniversary of the Black Hills Rally.  It will be packed on streets of Sturgis and the roads of the Black Hills.  IMO, you do not what to be there.  I've been to Sturgis six times in the last seven years and to Inzane twice, 2012 and 2013.  I think it's terrific that Inzane will be in Spearfish.  I love riding in those hills.  The choice is Sturgis with venders, shops, bars, displays and a half million bikes (90% Harleys) or Inzane with us and hundreds of Valks.  The riding in June will be much better.

Rams

I'm not going to knock Sturgis, to each their own.   But, I ride a Valkyrie and I know where I want to be.    In reference to the extracurricular visual effects at Sturgis, it may have changed but, every pic I see would suggest otherwise.    I'll take the fat lady anytime, I can ride her.  :D

I agree with you about the June ride out there. Should be nice and I don't do well in the heat (August). Either month the weather is always a gamble. A week early to Sturgis is getting really crowded to. Everyone has been getting the same idea about getting there early. Next year I would suspect that the event will be two weeks long even though not officially with everyone getting there early.. In comparison I think InZane will be the most profitable meeting some of you and even monitarily. The money isn't the issue it's the time off for me. I agree with your analogy, and the ride is what some of this is about. Meeting people is the best and I have something in common with most of you, you're all kinda,,,,,goofy. I'm ok but you guys? Could be a good suggestion you just made.
