Chase

Well, first things first I just want to say that I am sorry for this being so delayed. I got home from my trip and I have stayed so busy I haven't gotten even a second to sit and write this out until now. I started working with my dad in his new cast marble, polystone, and granite business he just bought and that has been very exciting. Now on to the good stuff!

I just want to thank all of you kind folks for helping me out with this trip. I am WAY beyond blessed, I really didn't do anything so deserving of something so grand. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your contributions to this kid right here. You are all pretty freaking fantastic. :)

I said my goodbyes late into the night on Thursday, and that was pretty heart breaking for me as is every year saying goodbye to all of you. Dean and I said by to WiggyDotCom (Russ) at about 5:00AM and off we went into the breaking morning sky. We were cruising for a good 15 minutes before we got lost. I followed Pastor Dean into a gas station to look at a map. The nice man at the counter told us how to get on our way. We had to get to Cass City Michigan that first day in order to stay the night with Deans old pals from years ago. They had a farm and a room for us to stay in. We took Highway 23 from North Carolina all the way into Michigan. We rode through five states that day (NC, VA, KY, OH, and MI.) and went 741 miles. The weather was very nice and we ran into very little rain the first day. The folks that took us in the first night were very pleasant people. A very nice Christian family that had a pretty big farm, and secluded land from neighbors. They had a nice home cooked meal and the best part was fresh milk from a cow they had just milked. YUM. I don't even like milk and I had about three tall glasses full of that stuff. We got to bed after visiting with the family at about midnight.

The next morning was a little tough. I had a hard time waking up. :) We were up bright and early at around 6:00AM and we said our goodbyes and went back on the road. We only had about 140 miles to get to Deans daughters home. That was an easy ride and very pretty ride across Michigan. Jenny (Deans daughter) works at a Christian camp called SpringHill. They cover her room and feed her as a part of her pay. We stayed the day with her getting a full on tour of the camp which was very interesting. I actually had a job interview that day with one of the camps head honchos. I got the job, but I declined it after I got home due to it not paying quite enough.

The next morning we were up and rolling at 6:00 AM. We had to make it up and around the U.P. and back down into Wisconsin and we had dinner plans at 7:00 PM with Deans In-laws and his old friends from there. This was exactly a 655 mile day. The U.P. was awesome and the Mackinac Bridge was beautiful and way cool to ride over. Dean was scared of the grate only because he doesn't like heights and it freaked him out, but I rode the entire bridge on top of the grate. I really didn't feel my back tire get wishy-washy on it like I had been told though. :) The ride next to the water was pretty dang cold, and not as enjoyable as I would have liked it to have been, but that's all a part of the adventure! We made it to our dinner plans and changed our nasty sweaty clothes in the parking lot, and went in to the restaurant looking pretty spiffy. We had a nice dinner and chat before we went back to deans friends house to continue visiting and have some desert. We left their house and had another 15 miles to ride in the dark of Wisconsin before arriving at Deans mom and dad's house. we went straight to bed. dean informed me that I could sleep in because we wouldn't be riding the next day. I was grateful for that.

I woke up to a nice smelling breakfast made by his mom. I fell in love with his parents as soon as I got to talk to them for a minute. They ALSO had fresh milk, I couldn't resist having a few glasses of it, because it WAS SO AMAZING. Seriously I think the milk was the highlight of this trip. Ha-ha Dean gave me a tour of the farm before we went down the road a mile and visited with his younger brother Kevin for a short bit. Dean decided he wanted to ride on that evening to his son, and daughter in-laws house, where his year and a half old grandson was. I just followed. That was a 172 mile jog that went very smooth. We even stopped and had an ice cream cone.

We got to Sam's house (His daughter In-law) and Deans grandson Elias was already asleep in bed. We stayed up and visited with Sam for an hour and then we went to bed. The next day was spent entirely doing what Elias wanted to, which was play outside. (my kinda kid!) It was cool seeing a little boy be rough but also well mannered and obedient. He liked to ride bikes, he loved motorcycles, he played baseball and soccer, and catch. It was different for me because I was raised with sisters that played barbies, and "house", and thought that sweating was bad. I was always outside riding my bicycle when I was younger, well, even today I am usually outside riding my bicycle! It was a good experience interacting with a young "me."

The next day was going to be brutal. Dean estimated 930 miles that we would ride. We had to get from Washington Illinois, to each of our driveways. We left at 5:00AM and rode and rode and rode, and then rode some more. We really took our time that day and tried to stay as hydrated as possible. It was actually a pretty easy day for me. As most of you know, I drink Monster Energy drinks. At the second or third gas stop we went in the station for some air conditioning. Dean bought him a Monster and I got me a Gatorade and I came upon a rare breed of Monster. It was extra strength nitrous technology. I had to have it. I gulped that thing down along with half of my Gatorade (splitting it with Dean). I was fully energized the rest of the trip, I never dozed not even once! It was fantastic. Hehehehe! I followed Dean to his house because he had a lot of his luggage in my bike. We unloaded and chatted about the day with his daughter Jesse (some of you may remember her from Hot Glue's Gathering Of The Fools in April). I then rode on into town from Falcon to my own driveway arriving at 9:30PM. WHEW. It was good to be home! Connie and Michael were still at my house visiting with the rest of the Kinter clan, so i visited with them and my family for a few minutes before turning in. The next day I woke up at 7:00AM automatically and took the day full charge. I went and saw my friend Gary who was the one who fell off the scaffolding and broke up his body. Breaking 7 of his 12 ribs on one side and breaking some of his upper spine, and other parts that I fail to remember. He was still in the hospital, but he was going home later that day. I washed the bikes when I got home and rearranged the garage a little bit. I unpacked and contacted two businesses that had called me on my trip about a job offer, and one of them was Chick-Fil-A asking me to come back. That was a nice feeling. The next day I worked with my dad, and then the weekend came and I was up early helping dad around the house and getting my mom's new fridge put in and working, and cleaning up the garage even more. Sunday was church and fellowship with Dean and his family and our mutual friend Ron. Monday through Friday the next week I worked 46 hours with dad installing and grinding down granite counter tops. I have stayed so busy and I am loving it! I am getting slowly worn down and I think dad could sense it. He gave me today off so I could catch up on sleep a little and enjoy some time relaxing a bit.

Sorry this was so delayed, but I just didn't have the slightest bit of time to write this up. I want to thank you all again for your kind and generous hearts in helping me enjoy this awesome ride! You are all way to good! I can't wait to roll again and share some laughs and enjoy quality FAMILY time with all of you hooligans! Special thanks to T-Bird for being my manager in the bike washing business, and taking care of Eric in MD for me! It was great meeting some new folks this year like Gordon, Eric in MD and his wife, and seeing great old friends like Ronnie Norman and his wife Carolyn! Always a hoot hanging out with them two!  Big thanks to Scott Oaks for a bamboo VRCC plaque! Thank you to TJ (5'19") for allowing me to take a sweet spin on his BMW GS1200, still smiling as I type this out! MASSIVE thanks for everyone's kind hearted compliments towards me and my parents for raising me and my siblings up right. I am glad I am who I am. You all have shaped me a ton as well, you don't realize it but everyone in this club has such a huge impact on my life and I love all of you tremendously. You rock! This was one of the most fun InZane's I have ever been to. I had a great time and I cannot wait for another fun year spent with you all!

Until next time you crazy people!

Chase.

Chase, you bring a lot of light into our lives also.  Always a pleasure to see all of your family, so well behaved and it gives some of us older folks encouragement for the future of America.

Well done Chase!   Great writing skills too.   With riding and writing like that at such a young age I can see you being the next generation of Bard's, like DDT...a traveler, adventurer, storyteller.

Most young men don't get to travel like that, soak it all in, learn from those around you.

When I travel I listen for those "Pearls of Wisdom" from the folks that I encounter.   They don't always come from older folks, I have heard them even from a wee child.   You will know when you have encountered one of those pearls, they make you ponder for a spell on what was said.

Treasure these times...

Chase, it's always a pleasure to spend time with you. You're wise, and talented, beyond your years. It's fun to listen to your musical skills and your riding is pretty darn close to impeccable.

Thanks for the great ride report....and pics. I'm sorry my mug was the last thing you had to see before leaving Asheville on Friday morning.

In conclusion, if I had a Son, he'd look just like you! Oh, wait, I DO have a Son and he looks nothing like you! Maybe that's a good thing.  :D

Chase -

I hooked up with you on the way to Inzane, we met up along the way in Illinois. We almost did it again on the way back.

We leap frogged each other a few times heading out of Asheville on 23. Wish I could have hooked up with the two of you. I headed up to Ohio to visit with my Mom for a few days.

I was sitting at a gas stop at one point, you drove by and looked over. I waived but you two were booking on down the way.

Looking forward to seeing you again next year. As others have said, your parents have done well! Keep up the good work.

Glad you made it home safe dude.  930 miles in one day is brutal.  Guess that new Monster helped.
Great ride report.  Reminds me if some of Joe, Solo1,  and DDT's work.  It was worth waiting for.

Proud to call you my friend.
