Well they definitely have the right attitude.... but lack the fitness required of extended combat.

Have you seen recent news about all women failing OTS (Marine infantry officer basic)?

Lots of men fail too, but because the women are having a hard go, the PCers want the standards lowered.  In America, apparently all standards are racist or sexist.

I came very close to trying the course myself (at 31).
I did see that, but I can't say too much. I know I couldn't do it. MAYBE when in my 20's, but not now.

I was pretty confident I could make it through at 31, and the Marines wanted me enough to offer me a full/part-time Sgt to run me up and down the roads in the middle of winter (with pushups, pullups, situps and whatever else I had to do), for 4-6 weeks before I would ship to Quantico for the course.  No other branch of service I talked to had anywhere near that kind of attitude/spirit (and of course no other branch had that tough of a training requirement either).

I ultimately chose the USAF for a number of reasons unrelated to Marine OTS.

Today, I wouldn't only fail, I would die.   Grin
