People drive like there's no tomorrow! When I started in the FD 27 years ago drivers would pull to the side of the road to let us pass, now they don't even know were there. The expressways are scary as they pass us at 70 mph. We use the trucks as a barrier and the trucks have been run into before. We had a policeman hit on the expressway while working a wreck about a month ago.
I try hard to ride in the country were there is the least traffic, enjoy a relaxing ride.

Thanks for what you do, it takes a special breed to do this. Most people are running ouot of a nasty situation while we are running in. I'm headed for 34 years and the last 20 has been as chief. I don't have RR tracks or xways but I do have 4 state trunk lines and I get what you are talking about. I think Fudgie does EMT or Medic work as well if I remember right? We block as well. I'd rather these inattentive fools hit the truck than one of my guys. Pisses LE off some times when we tie the road up but they understand it. We cover / protect them as well when we have to. I spent 28 years on the road as a LEO and did both jobs the better part of my life. I have extra respect anyone that has to deal with the public on a daily basis in the emergency services business. Take care!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I hate working wrecks on bridges of interstates. No where to egress but over the edge.  Grin Had a lady gather stuff out of her car and we waited as they flew by us at 75 mph with only 1 police car on a icey bridge. I told the lady "WTF lady lets get off this f'in bridge". I apologized to her later  Roll Eyes

Now how many new riders are going to wear those vests? [Think about it]

If a rider wanted conspicquity, then let the rider let that rider buy his/her own vest.

When will the State start to give out helmets for passing a rider course? [Think about that]

When will you? Think about that. never mind I already know the answer. Only over your dead body.

Why are you so negative about the state trying to promote new motorcyclist's safety and survival? You could be a mentor with all your years of experience to a new rider by encouraging riding safety not raging against it.

I wore a helmet gloves and a jacket the first time I rode a 305 on the street way back in 1973 and the bikes kids get now are sure way faster than an old 305 Honda. I think they should be encouraged to ride ATGATT at least while they're learning how to survive among the brain dead texting cagers. Nothing wrong at all with giving them a Hi viz vest. It just might save several lives.

Are you against the headlights being on full time also?

Thinking there's a disconnect here.

Everyone is for rider safety.

I don't like bright colors personally, but have no problem at all if everybody else wears them.

The complaint here is not rider safety, the complaint is government spending (waste) and government intrusion (seemingly into every niche of human life).

You may see it as a free gift, I see it as government theft of taxpayer funds.

There is no RIGHT to ride a motorcycle, if you ride it is at your own expense.... and your gear should also be at your own expense (not at public expense).

The Nanny State, is not my friend (and I am NOT it's friend).

Every time the Fed G thinks about spending one cent, they should consult this first.  In fact, a jumbo-tron of this should be erected in the House, Senate, and the Oval Office (and be incapable of ever being turned off).
