To all the New Mexico area riders, Question for you; there is a possibility of me being offered a job out in Los Alamos area and I need to get some insight from some locals about the area. I have been through NM several times and spend a couple of weeks in Albuquerque for my job, however I am looking for more of a feel from you guys that live there.
Any and all information you can share will be helpful, and if you feel up to it, PM me and send me your # I will gladly call you

Thanks Yuri

My aunt lives in Rio Ranch north of Albequerque and always talks like it is paradise. Has been there for years and loves it enough to be a tourist advisor. I have visited the area and there is a zillion things to see and do. Of course visiting and living are 2 different things. I throw this out to ya, but I'm sure some that actually live there will have better info for you.  cooldude

Thanks for the info Dave.  cooldude
From what I have seen and read I think we will like the area, I'm just looking for the "native" insight from the ones that live there.

Fort Walton Beach, Florida I'm a simple man, I like pretty, dark haired woman and breakfast food.

The only experience I've ever had in New Mexico was a 30 day TDY at Holloman AFB back in the 70's.

It's in the desert halfway between Alamogordo and White Sands.  Totally different part of the state than what you're looking into.

My memories of the area are mostly of jack rabbits, tumble weeds and dust storms.

Up in the mountains in the Cloudcroft area was nice though.  Lots of nice riding roads up in the mountains.

But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Los Alamos is one of the safer places to be in New Mexico.  For the longest time Albuquerque was the car theft capital of the US and has a high overall crime rate.  Being from Colorado I have been to the Santa Fe/Los Alamos area on several occasions and have enjoyed my time there.  I like the mountain areas and there are a ton of motorcycle worthy roads.

Overall, New Mexico is very high on the nations crime lists!

The problem with Socialists is they eventually run out of other people's money to spend!

Some people are too stupid to realize how ignorant they are.

Overall, Los Alamos is in the North central area. Snow in the winter and moderate dry summers. The riding there is great. Google the Taos, Eagles Nest areas. Colorado is close and the Grand Canyon is a short days ride. I know a hidden gem road on the Navaho Reservation that will blow you away. It's BIA13 between Chukalukai, AZ and Farmington, NM.

Los Alamos is probably one of the best areas of the state to live in and the second best to ride. The roads are fine riding for many miles around that area. North-Northwest NM I think you know are the mountains and they start at the city limits of L.A.

The roads are only surpassed by the Gila national forest area roads in my opinion and that's because the view is better and less people. bring your dualsport, we got more good dirt than pavement.
